ONGC A tops Pool 2
ONGC A is the strongest team of pool 2, with the India no.2 Grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi playing in board 1. As one could predict, ONGC finished 1st in Pool 2 with a perfect 14/14 score. BPCL and Oil-A stood 2nd and 3rd respectively. The Knockouts take place today - starting with the semifinals, the small finals and the finals!
IOC-A finishes 1st in Pool 1
The team with 5 Grandmasters (Praggnanandhaa, Surya, Karthikeyan, Raunak, Adhiban) finished 1st in Pool 1 after 7 rounds of play. ONGC-B and IOC-B stood 2nd and 3rd respectively. In the duel (knockout matches) starting today, IOC-A takes on BPCL in the semifinals. Praggnanandhaa will face Abhijeet Gupta in the top board!

WIM Isha Sharma (2213, ONGC B) scored a big victory against one of the most experienced women players of the country, IM Padmini Rout (2389, IOC B).

The game was pretty much balanced until this point, but now Padmini blundered with 41...Bc6. It was important to play ...Kg8! so that after Re1 (trying to win the e5 pawn), Black has ...e3 and the game is equalish in nature. But after 41...Bc6, Isha continued 42. Re1! and now there's no way to defend the e4-pawn. Isha Sharma went on to win the pawn and the game in a few moves.
