As fellow chess fans, we always welcome a new chess magazine in which to indulge in our passion, but rarely does one appear with the amount of Wow factor that can be seen in the new American Chess Magazine. The large, beautifully produced magazine not only brings a slew of articles on events with deeply commented games but comes also with columns by names such as Baadur Jobava and Vassily Ivanchuk. Although the first edition celebrates the historic US win at the Olympiad, there is also a report on India by Pentala Harikrishna.

FWCM 09: Karjakin cements his lead

Karjakin came to the ninth game with a full point lead. Magnus was raring to play aggressive chess even with the black pieces and went for the Arkhangelsk system in the Ruy Lopez. In the resulting position Carlsen had some kingside weaknesses to play against while Sergey had an extra pawn and the bishop pair. The Challenger's advantage proved to be superior as the World Champion had to be ultra resourceful in order to save the half point. Full analysis, key positions and vivid images from the ninth game.

Aravindh beats Adhiban, leads the National Premier

17-year-old Aravindh Chithambaram is in scintillating form at the National Premier 2016. He is currently on 4.0/5 with wins over Murali Karthikeyan and B. Adhiban. The fourth round is yet to be completed due to the controversies that had arisen. But in the games that were played Aravindh had won against Sriram Jha. So, the lad is currently sitting pretty on top with 5.0/6. Two players have withdrawn from the event. At this National Premier there has been action both on and off the board, but this time we focus on the former.

FWCM 08: Karjakin strikes the first blow

After seven consecutive draws, we finally had a decisive game! The Challenger won game eight and now leads the match with a score of 4.5-3.5. It was an extremely poor show by the World Champion who shunned many drawing opportunities, even came back from a lost position, but eventually had to bite the dust because of his complete lack of objectivity. Sergey Karjakin has played solid chess and thoroughly deserves this victory. We analyze the game and bring to you the key moments explained in didactic and lucid style.

AICF President saves the day

The National Premier 2016 was on verge of being discontinued as five players had withdrawn their names from the event due to horrific playing conditions. Vidit Gujrathi, Abhijit Kunte, Tejas Bakre, Abhishek Kelkar and Neeraj Mishra were left in a lurch when the fourth round began with the remaining nine participants. This is when the AICF President Venketrama Raja intervened and saved the situation. We bring you the entire story that took place on the 20th of November 2016.

FWCM 07: Carlsen's carelessness

A promising and new opening idea led to a very comfortable position for Magnus with the black pieces. In fact he had such nice development and structure that it seemed as if he would push for a win throughout the game. However, on the 16th move Carlsen blundered and lost all the chances of an advantage. He lost a pawn, but was able to take the game into an opposite coloured pawn down position. Sergey was a pawn up, but couldn't really push much. In the end the players agreed for a draw. Seventh consecutive draw!

FWCM 06: A heavy theoretical battle

Magnus Carlsen has been pretty much out of sorts in this World Championship Match. He botched up two winning positions in game three and four, and in the fifth game he was nearly lost. However, in the sixth round he played some accurate chess and made use of his excellent preparation to make an easy draw against the Challenger with the black pieces. GM Tiger Hillarp Persson analyzes this short but exciting game.

The worst organized National Premier ever

We earlier reported that the players were left high and dry at the 54th National Premier 2016, when the organizers didn't have a venue at the start of the event. Three rounds have been played after that and Murali Karthikeyan leads the tournament with 2.5/3. However, the main focus is no longer chess, as the organizers called up a meeting of players to inform them that the venue is no longer available. It's a nightmare for the participants and we bring you the views, opinions and all the updates.

The average Elo rating of the event is 2458.
