Gibraltar 06+07: Indians struggle

As the tournament came to a halfway, Indians are facing ups and downs at the Gibraltar Masters. Well, more downs and ups, in fact. While India's key players GM Abhijeet Gupta and GM Surya Shekhar Ganguly are struggling to find their rhythm, GM SP Sethuraman, GM Debashis Das, and GM Lalith Babu continue to offer hope. Gibraltar 05: Peace and War

The biggest chess open in the world currently, the Gibraltar Masters, has reached the halfway mark. After four rounds of play, GM Ju Wenjun and ACP President, GM Emil Sutovsky were leading the tournament with a perfect score of 4.0/4. Their game ended in a tame draw. However, this was compensated by scintillating wins by Nakamura, Caruana and Topalov. For Indians Lalith Babu drew his game against Ivanchuk and Abhijeet Gupta has now scored four consecutive wins. B. Adhiban has shown absolutely no respect for current status of opening theory at the Tata Steel Masters 2017. This approach is entirely viable is proved by his +1 score at the end of twelve rounds. It is almost as if he wants original positions that have been never played before. Gibraltar 04: Wenjun and Sutovsky lead

The Gibraltar Masters 2017 started with a marvelous list of chess titans. In a 255 player field, 72 are grandmasters; and of those 72, twelve are rated above 2700. Eye-widening, isn’t it? But after four rounds of play, each one of these chess-gurus has been pushed behind. The tournament lead is currently shared by the women’s world championship challenger, GM Ju Wenjun and the President of the Association of Chess Professionals (ACP), GM Emil Sutovsky with a perfect score of 4.0/4.

Tata Steel 11: Scandalized in the Scandinavian!

It was the biggest game of Adhiban's career. An equally important one for his opponent Magnus Carlsen. While Adhiban had a chance to beat the best player on the planet, the World Champion was looking for a win to catch up with the leader Wesley So. As it turns out, the Chennai GM played an inspired game of chess, beginning with the Scandinavian Defense and had Carlsen on the mat at one point in the battle. In the end Magnus wriggled out and the game concluded in a draw. Full analysis of this encounter as well as Giri versus Harikrishna mayhem.

Chennai 07-10: Tukhaev gallops away with the Indian Circuit

With the final round of the 2017 Chennai Open, the Indian circuit that has been running since a month came to a successful end. The total prize fund of this circuit already touched the Rs. 80-lakh-mark. But as has been announced already, the next years' edition of the same circuit will have a prize fund of Rs. 1 crore. Meanwhile, Adam Tukhaev galloped away with the Chennai Open title as expected. Find out how.

Gibraltar 03: Gopal’s gnarly Bishops

Three rounds have been completed so far at the Rock and the excitement grew threefold. Indian grandmaster GN Gopal held Hikaru Nakamura on the top board. IM V. Saravanan had Chucky on the ropes. GM SP Sethuraman was pitted against US prodigy IM Awonder Liang and was held to a draw. Aditya Pai sends us an illustrated report with video interviews by the beautiful Tania Sachdev.  

Aditya Mittal analyzes Aronian vs Rapport

In the tenth round of the Tata Steel Masters 2017 Levon Aronian played a beautiful game against Richard Rapport. The game contained excellent opening preparation, exquisite middlegame combination and a swift final attack. This brilliancy caught the attention of our annotator Aditya Mittal. Tata Steel 10: Harikrishna holds the World Champion to a draw

Harikrishna Pentala managed to hold the World Champion Magnus Carlsen to a draw in the tenth round of the Tata Steel Chess 2017. Adhiban showed some blistering levels of preparation in the Bg5 Najdorf against Ian Nepomniachtchi. He was very close to a win, but couldn't finish off his Russian opponent. Chennai 07-10: Adam Tukhaev wins the tourney and the Indian circuit

Ukraine's GM Adam Tukhaev finished with three draws to become the Chennai Open 2017 champion with 8.5/10. He won the tournament by a half-point margin. Four players tied for the second place with 8.0/10 and the best Indian among them was IM S. Nitin. Express Report.

Tata Steel 09: India holds fort against China and Russia!

Both the Indian players had their backs against the wall. Adhiban was going down against his Chinese opponent Wei Yi, while Harikrishna had been pinned down by the Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi. By means of staunch defence and making opponent's task of winning as difficult as possible, both Adhiban and Hari managed to save a draw! It was a great result for all the Indian fans.
