Group e4, a group of 100+ families from 35+ cities around the world came together to raise close to ₹25 lacs to support some of India’s most talented young chess players being mentored by Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand, five time world champion. MPL 31st National U-18 R1-6: Bhagyashree Patil scores a double hat-trick

Top seed GM Bharath Subramaniyam H (TN) and CM Soham Kamotra (J&K) share the lead 5.5/6 at the conclusion of the sixth round of MPL 31st National Under-18 Open Chess Championship 2022. Soham held Bharath to a draw in the sixth round. They are closely followed by eight players at 5.0/6 including IM Srihari L R (TN) and IM Avinash Ramesh (TN). In the Girls event, WFM Bhagyashree Patil (MAH) registered her sixth victory over Keerti Shree Reddy (TN) to emerge as the sole leader 6.0/6. MPL National Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships 2022 preview

About 125 players have already registered for MPL National Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships 2022. Due to Covid-19, the tournament could not take place for the last two years. Since all National events were had faster time controls, there were no separate National Rapid and Blitz Championships. The tournament will have a total prize fund ₹650,000. The prize fund for Rapid will be ₹400,000, the first prize being ₹75000. For Blitz event, total prize fund is ₹250,000, first prize ₹50000. Apart from the prizes, the winner of each event will earn a spot at World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships 2022. India no.2 GM Vidit Gujrathi invites you to take part in this event which starts in a week. Kaustuv Kundu triumphs at 4th Bangalore Open 2022

Kaustuv Kundu scored an unbeaten 8.0/9. He finished a half point ahead of the field to win 4th Bangalore Open Rating Chess Tournament 2022. Five players scored 7.5/9 - Ritviz Parab, IM Neelash Saha, IM Ratnakaran K, FM Ram Aravind L N and FM Senthil Maran. They were placed second to sixh according to the tie-breaks. Kaustuv won ₹50000 and trophy, Runner-up Ritviz received ₹40000 and Second Runner-up Neelash earned ₹30000 cash each as their respective prize. Total prize fund of the tournament was ₹600000. This is the second out of the four consecutive rating tournaments organized by Innovators Chess Academy at GEAR Innovative International School, Bangalore, Karnataka. 14-year-old Sahithi Varshini gains 242 Elo points, becomes a WIM, reaches India no.12

14-year-old Sahithi Varshini has an incredible story. She was rated 2070 in October 2021. It was at that point that her father Lokesh took a year's leave from his job at HPCL, a Rs.14 lakh loan, and together with his entire family decided to go on a year-long trip to give more exposure to his talented young daughter. Sahithi has played 10 tournaments in last six months. In it she has gained a massive 242 Elo points, not only pumping her rating to 2312 and reaching India no.12, but also achieving the WIM title. This article tells you the story of this amazing Indian chess talent and also shows her tremendous attacking skills which are reminiscent of the games of the great World Champion Mikhail Tal.

Sammed Jaykumar Shete wins All India Rapid Rating Open 2022

IM Sammed Jaykumar Shete scored an unbeaten 8.5/9. He finished a half point ahead of the competition to win All India Rapid Rating Open 2022. Three players scored 8.0/9 - GM Stany G A, FM FI Sauravh Khherdekar and IM Viani Antonio Dcunha. They were placed second to fourth according to the tie-breaks. Sammed won ₹51000 cash, Runner-up Stany and Second Runner-up Sauravh earned ₹41000 cash each as their prize. Total prize fund of the tournament was ₹500000. Gukesh glorious at 48th La Roda Open 2022, Praggnanandhaa third

GM D Gukesh won his first Classical tournament of the year at 48th La Roda International Open 2022. He scored an unbeaten 8.0/9 and finished a half point ahead of the competition. He did not leave things to be decided on tie-breaks. He missed MPL 58th National Senior Open and 19th Delhi International GM Open on tie-breaks. GM Haik Martirosyan (ARM) secured second place 7.5/9. Five players scored 7.0/9. GM Praggnanandhaa R and GM Raunak Sadhwani were placed third and fourth respectively according to tie-breaks. Sasikiran sensational at Fagernes Open 2022, Aryan Chopra second

GM Krishnan Sasikiran won his first Classical tournament of the year at Fagernes Open 2022. Both him and GM Aryan Chopra scored 7.0/9 each. Sasikiran remained undefeated throughout the event. Due to his better tie-break score, he clinched the championship and Aryan had to settle for second place. GM Frode Olav Olsen Urkedal (NOR) and GM Aram Hakobyan (ARM) scored 6.5/9 each. They were placed third and fourth respectively according to tie-breaks. Ten players scored 6.0/9 each. Harsha Bharathakoti - The Humble Powerhouse

MPL 41st National Team Chess Championship 2022 got over a few days ago. India's 56th GM Harsha Bharathakoti won the tournament for his team, Airports Authority of India. He also won an individual Silver medal on Board no.3. Last month, he tied for the first place at 19th Delhi International GM Open 2022. He beat Richard Rapport, Kirill Shevchenko, Radoslaw Wojtaszek, David Anton Guijarro, drew with Nodribek Abdusattorov at World Blitz 2021 and won against Rauf Mamedov, Vladislav Kovalev, Volodymyr Onyshchuk, drew with Vladislav Artemiev, Maxim Matlakov and Sergei Movsesian at World Rapid 2021. Airports Authority of India flies high at MPL National Team Open and Women Chess Championship 2022

Airports Authority of India dominated MPL 41st National Team Open and 19th National Team Women's championship 2022. They won both Open and Women event without losing a single match. In the Open event, AAI, RSPB A and RSPB B, all three teams scored 16.0/18. They drew their games against each other. AAI and RSPB A had the same match and game points. Thus, the third tie-break decided the championship in favor of AAI. RSPB A and RSPB B were placed second and third respectively. Goutham Krishna and Shubhi Gupta are the MPL 34th National Under-12 Open and Girls Chess Champions

Goutham Krishna H (KER) defeated Aakash G (TN) and Shubhi Gupta (UP) won against Sherali Pattnaik (UTT) in the final round to clinch the championship. Arjun Adireddy (TEL) and Ethan Vaz (Goa) scored 9.0/11 each. They secured second and third position according to tie-breaks. In the Girls event, Shreya G Hipparagi (MAH) drew with Saparya Ghosh (WB). Both Shubhi and Shreya scored 9.0/11. However, Shubhi clinched the championship due to better tie-breaks and Shreya was placed second. Saparya edged past Nivedita V C (TN) in tie-breaks to secure third position 8.5/11. Total prize fund of the tournament was ₹800000, ₹400000 for each event. Pranav Venkatesh wins 1st BCF Rapid Rating Open 2022

IM Pranav Venkatesh scored an unbeaten 7.0/7. He finished a half point ahead of the field to win 1st BCF Rapid Rating Open 2022. Three players scored 6.5/7 - IM Praveen Kumar C, R Ashwath and GM Bharath Subramaniyam H. They were placed second to fourth according to the tie-breaks. Pranav won ₹25000 cash and a trophy, Runner-up Praveen earned ₹20000 and Ashwath received ₹15000 cash as their respective prize. Total prize fund of the tournament was ₹150000. The one-day seven-round rapid rating tournament was organized by Bruno Chess Foundation on 3rd April at Velankanni Public School, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

MPL 34th National U-12 R9-10: Goutham and Shreya eye the championships

Goutham Krishna H (KER) ended Ethan Vaz's (Goa) unbeaten run in the ninth round of MPL 34th National Under-12 Chess Championship 2022. This win allowed him to catch up with Ethan. Top seed Arjun Adireddy (TEL) defeated Ethan, handing him his second consecutive loss of the day. Goutham drew with Mrinmoy Rajkhowa (ASM) to take sole lead 8.5/10. In the Girls event, top seed Shubhi Gupta (UP) defeated Prishita Gupta (DEL) before losing to Shreya G Hipparagi (MAH) in the penultimate round. Shreya has now taken sole lead 8.5/10. Praggnanandhaa conquers the historic Kvika Reykjavik Open 2022

GM Praggnanandhaa joined the long line of legendary winners of Reykjavik Open. Among the world champions, Mikhail Tal, Vassily Smyslov won the round-robin editions in the first ten years. Among the Indians, Harikrishna (2006), Abhijeet Gupta (2010 and 2016) and Adhiban (2018) won the presitigious event. Abhijeet, Adhiban and now Praggnanandhaa, each of them won clear first. Gukesh was moments away from winning the tournament when he blundered and lost the game. Apart from Pragg, Abhijeet Gupta is the only other Indian to finish in top 10. He scored 6.5/9 to finish at shared seventh place. IM Tania Sachdev scored 6.0/9 to win the Best Woman prize. She is the highest finisher among female participants.
