FIDE Trainers' Online Seminar to take place from 5th to 7th May 2023

Five Grandmasters and FIDE Senior Trainers will give lecture at the FIDE Trainers' Online Seminar from 5th to 7th May 2023. World Class trainer and critically acclaimed author, Artur Jussupow, Kasparov's second in his first four world championship matches - Iossir Dorfman, trainer of Karpov, Ivanchuk, Polgar sisters and various national teams all over the world - Adrian Mikhalchisin, former Women's World Champion - Antoaneta Stefanova and last but not the least one of the best trainers of the country - R B Ramesh. All five of them will deliver lectures for a combined total of 16 hours, following that the seminar participants will take a written examination of two hours on the final day. World Championship Game 12: Ding Liren is back in the Match as 'Ian curse' strikes

Ding Liren bounced back by winning a virtually must-win Game 12. The World no.3 unleashed Colle System as his weapon of choice which slightly rattled his opponent. Nepomniachtchi moving his queenside bishop twice in the first eight moves was definitely a sign of nerves. Since Ding needed a win to get back in the match, he tried to create imbalance in the position by taking a lot of risks. It turned his position into completely lost. As Vishy Anand tweeted, the 'Ian curse' struck and things took a 180° turn. Ding Liren was not going to slip this golden opportunity. He managed to seize it and level the score 6-6. 2nd Chessable Sunway Formentera R7: Pranav Venkatesh wins a 105-move marathon against Aravindh

Pranav Venkatesh ended Aravindh Chithambaram's 34-game unbeaten streak which he achieved in 2023. He managed to endure a difficult position where only Aravindh could make a breakthrough which he did. The teenager waited with bated breath for his opportunity. When it arose, Pranav struck and scored a full point. Aryan Chopra suffered a loss against the super-strong Vladimir Fedoseev. First, he made an incorrect decision in the endgame which created some practical chances for Fedoseev. Later he missed his last opportunity in the final stage of the rook and few pawns endgame. For Chess players all across the world, travelling to Europe for tournaments is an exciting affair. Playing 3-4 tournaments in a row (because it's the most economical that way), adapting to a whole new continent, travelling, food, and of course -preparing for your games, all the while thinking "you better gain some rating points, you have travelled so far"! Shubham Kumthekar is a chess player, trainer and author, and recently he took a tournament trip to Europe with his friends. Rook and Roll - A Simul with IM Rakesh Kulkarni

Bangalore Chess Club is an all-inclusive chess community with an aim to increase engagement and reach, giving people a platform to play OTB Chess. Last year, they organized a Simul by Karnataka's first and India's 50th Grandmaster, Thej Kumar. On Saturday 8th April, a day before the start of the FIDE World Championship 2023, BCC organized their simul event at Garuda Mall in Bangalore. A total of 20 players were eligible to play against IM Rakesh Kulkarni. All of them qualified in four different methods. Two players - Gurudeep Mathad and Nazeef Khan managed to beat the IM, while Vrajesh, Samaksh Ashok and Rahil Shah managed to draw with him. The IM won the Simul by 16.5-3.5. Levon Aronian wins Satty Zhuldyz Rapid and Blitz 2023, Arjun Ergaisi second

Arjun Erigaisi faltered on the second day of Blitz. He started with a draw against Haik Martirosyan, suffered three consecutive losses between Round 19 and 21, including a loss against the eventual champion Levon Aronian. The only two-time FIDE World Cup winner in history, won the Satty Zhuldyz Rapid and Blitz 2023 with one round to spare. Even a last round loss against the World Blitz 2022 Bronze medalist, Haik Martirosyan, did not deter his championship hopes. Aronian won the tournament scoring 23/33, Arjun Erigaisi finished second 21.5/33 and Haik finished third 21/33. Registration starts for 2nd ChessBase India Training Camp in Bhopal

Chessbase India's 2nd training camp dates in Bhopal have been announced! This camp will run from 13th June (Tuesday) - 18th June (Sunday) 2023 at the Chessbase India Training Academy, Bhopal. This time,a total of 12 spots have been kept for students, out of which 2 spots are reserved for the players of Madhya Pradesh. The first camp was successfully organized in the second week of March. ChessBase India aims to provide World-class chess training through these camps to all players who aspire to achieve something in the game. So if you are ready to work hard, then this camp can prove to be an important step in your sports career! The registration of the camp is based on the principle of first come first serve. HelpChess Foundation supports Indian chess players to the tune of Rs.26 lakh in 2022-23

In the year 2022-23, HelpChess Foundation worked around the clock to support Indian chess players. We supported close to 20 players from all across the country and helped them in various ways - tournament expenses, laptops, coaching fees etc. The total amount spent was Rs.25,97,626 (US$31,705). In this article we give a detailed breakdown of all the initiatives, scholarships, sponsorships that were undertaken by HelpChess. At the same time, we have a fund of close to Rs.15 lakh with which we would like to support talents in the year 2023-24. If you are a serious chess player, who is lacking funds, you can fill Google Form given in the article.

2nd Chessable Sunway Formentera R6: Aryan Chopra regains sole lead

Aryan Chopra defeated Raja Rithvik R to regain his sole lead. Aravindh Chithambaram and Pranav Venkatesh drew with Vladimir Fedoseev and Karthik Venkataraman respectively. IM Prraneeth Vuppala scored an impressive win over the World Under-16 champion, GM Pranav Anand. IM Vaishali drew with GM Xu Yi (CHN). Aravindh, Fedoseev and Pranav V are in pursuit at 4.5/6 each. Karthik finished third in the second Blitz event on 23rd April, scoring 7/9. Vitaliy Bernadskiy (UKR) and Daniel Dardha (BEL) scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed first and second respectively. World Championship Game 11: Quick Draw in 100 minutes

The eleventh game of FIDE World Championship Match 2023 was the shortest game in terms of duration. It lasted a little less than 100 minutes before it ended in a draw. Ian Nepomniachtchi opted for 8.a3 in the Ruy Lopez. It did not give Ding Liren a good feeling about the game as he recollected a memory of his tough loss at the FIDE Candidates 2020. Nevertheless, he mentioned that he did better this time. The score is now 6-5 in favor of the World no.2. Ding Liren reminded everyone that there are three games left and he has two whites. He finished the Candidates 2022 with a win which played a key role in him playing this match. Will he be able to bounce back? Today is a rest day. Satty Zhuldyz Rapid and Blitz 2023: Arjun Ergaisi increases his sole lead

Arjun Erigaisi did not have the best start in the Blitz event of Satty Zhuldyz 2023. He scored only 2/5 in the first five games, winning only two and losing three. The India no.1 in Blitz recovered scoring 5/6 to finish the first day of Blitz with a 7/11 score. He missed a few wins and then won some games which could have gone either way. The most impressive performance of the day was by the World Blitz 2022 Bronze medalist, Haik Martirosyan. The Armenian scored an unbeaten 9/11. He set the tone of the day by winning against Arjun in the very first round of the day. Arjun is currently leading the tournament 16.5/20, followed by Levon Aronian 14.5/20 and then Haik 13.5/20. Bharath Subramaniyam H triumphs at 4th ICA Rapid Rating Open 2023

GM Bharath Subramaniyam H, Aakash Sharadchandra Dalvi, GM Arjun Kalyan and CM Gireman Ja scored 8/9 each at 4th ICA Rapid Rating Open 2023. Bharath won the tournament due to better tie-breaks. Aakash, Arjun and Gireman were placed second, third and fourth respectively. Only Arjun remained undefeated among them. Bharath defeated the runner-up, Aakash in Round 5. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹500000. The top three prizes were ₹51000, ₹41000 and ₹31000 each respectively. Before this Bharath had two consecutive podium finishes at CCS Chess Festival. This is his first tournament triumph since he won a one-day rapid rating tournament back in August 2022. Rayna Ajay Patel wins Bronze at World School Under-7 Girls Championship 2023

Rayna Ajay Patel scored 7/9 to secure the Bronze medal for India at the World School Under-7 Girls Chess Championship 2023. She suffered only two losses. They were against the Gold and Silver medal winners - Tsogtgerel Gerelt-Oyu (MGL) and Reana Kinzyabulatova respectively. Out of the eight participating Indians, Rayna became the sole Indian to clinch a medal at this event. She won the Ahmedabad District and Gujarat State Under-7 Girls Championship a month before. This was her 24th tournament since May 2022. All three podium finishers won their respective final round game. Thus the standings remained unchanged since the penultimate round of the event. World Championship Game 10: The Pray or the Prey?

The tenth game of the FIDE World Championship 2023 ended in a draw. Only four games left to decide the new world champion. Ding Liren does not have a lot of games left to fight back. While he chose the English opening, the World no.2 was able to pull the element of surprise card. The extra pawn did not mean much for the Chinese as his pawn structure was bad. It was not possible to extract anything to get even remotely close to delivering the equalizer. Team Liren must dig deep and find something to keep this match going. IM Nitish Belurkar wins the 1st Indore International GM Open

An exciting final round decided the winner of the 1st Indore International GM Open 2023! In the 10th round, IM Nitish Belurkar continued his fantastic form and defeated FM Harsh Suresh in the first board. The battle between IM Viani Antonio Dcunha and IM Ameya Audi in the 2nd board was a messy one, but Viani was the one who managed to come out on top. Both Viani and Nitish finished with 8.5/10, but Nitish became the champion due to better tiebreaks! Viani stood 2nd, and the experienced Polish Grandmaster Michal Krasenkow finished 3rd.
