Sardinia Festival 2024 R3: Bharath Subramaniyam and seven more make a perfect start

Eight players made a perfect start at Sardinia World Chess Festival 2024. GM Bharath Subramaniyam H is the sole Indian among them. He will face the new Spain no.4 GM Alan Pichot in Round 4. IM Yair Parkhov (ISR) and IM Eray Kilic (TUR) are the only two IMs among the leaders pack. FM Ritvik Krishnan defeated IM Remy Degraeve (FRA) to move to an unbeaten 2.5/3. Italy no.4, GM Francesco Sonis checkmated his opponent IM Edvin Trost (SWE) on his 22nd birthday. The first-ever Classical rated game between the Botez sisters was won by Alexandra over her younger sister Andrea. Tomorrow is the sole double round of the day. 29th Tepe Sigeman & Co 2024 R3: Arjun Erigaisi crushes Maurizzi, makes it a three-way lead

Arjun Erigaisi scored his second win of the tournament at 29th TePe Sigeman & Co Tournament 2024. He was determined to play for a win. It was evident with his aggressive pawn pushes on the kingside. The reigning World Junior champion decided to sacrifice his knight for two pawns and expose Arjun's king. However, the India no.1 managed to defend his king quite well and won the game. The remaining three games ended in draws. Nils Grandelius (SWE) is the only one among them who had a tiny window of opportunity in the endgame against Wenjun Ju (CHN). Divith Reddy Adulla scored 10/11 to clinch Gold at World Cadet Rapid Under-8 Open. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Lukyan Huzela (UKR) scored 9.5/11 to secure Silver. Nurislam Sultankhan (KAZ) won Bronze medal scoring 8/11 due to better tie-breaks. Sharvaanica won a Gold medal in the Under-10 Girls Rapid. Alisa Genrietta Yunker scored sole 8.5/11 to secure Silver. Malika Norkulova (UZB) won Bronze scoring 8/11 and had a better tie-break score. Divith also won a Bronze in Under-8 Open Blitz. Sharvaanica earned a Silver medal by scoring 9/11 in Under-10 Girls Blitz. The top three prizes in Rapid were Cup, medal, diploma and €600, €450 and €350 each, for Blitz they were, Cup, medal, diploma and €500, €400 and €300 each respectively. IM Benjamin Haldorsen (NOR) got himself a good opportunity to push for a win against Vladimir Fedoseev (SLO) in Round 2 of Sardinia World Chess Festival 2024. In time trouble, the Norwegian first traded queens and then traded his bishop with his opponent's knight. It evaporated the advantage and the game ended in a draw. IM Vantika Agrawal played solid and ensured GM Maksim Chigaev (ESP) did not break through her defenses. The game ended in a draw. GM Bharath Subramaniyam H is the sole Indian at 2/2. WFM Alexandra Botez (CAN) will face her sister, Andrea Botez (CAN) in the third round in Group B. Round 3 starts tomorrow at 3 p.m. local time, 6:30 p.m. IST. The chess universe will have to wait to a little longer to see a decisive game between Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) and Arjun Erigaisi. Arjun was forced to go for perpetual checks to prevent his king getting checkmated by Abdusattorov's queen. Anton Korobov (UKR) and Vincent Keymer (GER) won their second games in-a-row. Korobov showed fantastic positional understanding against Marc` Andria Maurizzi (FRA). Keymer displayed his tactical alertness after getting himself ready for an annihilation on Nils Grandelius' (SWE) kingside. Wenjun Ju (CHN) suffered her second consecutive loss. Humpy, Harika and Vaishali qualify for FIDE Women’s Grand Prix 2024-25

FIDE Women's Grand Prix 2024-25 qualifiers names revealed. Six out of the 20 GP participants will be decided by the local host (organizers). There are three Indians out of the 14 qualifiers - GM Koneru Humpy, GM Harika Dronavalli and GM R Vaishali. Three former Women's World Champions in Classical format - Zhongyi Tan (CHN), Mariya Muzychuk (UKR) and Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI), will be joined three former Women's World Rapid Champion - Koneru Humpy, Kateryna Lagno and Anna Muzychuk (UKR). FM Goutham Krishna H scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 3rd Chessmii Rapid Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. IM Srinath Rao S V, Marthandan K U and Arpith S Bijoy scored 8/9 each. They secured second, third and fourth place respectively according to tie-breaks. Goutham drew with the eventual runner-up Srinath to become the champion. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹25000, ₹20000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each. Sardinia Festival 2024 R1: 13-year-old Sauat Nurgaliyev surprises Jorden van Foreest

13-year-old FM Sauat Nurgaliyev (KAZ) stunned GM Jorden van Foreest (NED) in the first round of Sardinia World Chess Festival 2024. The teenager thought that the strong super GM will shock him but it happened the other way in the game. About 300 players are taking part combining Group A, B and C. 21 GMs, 34 IMs, 2 WGMs and 6 WIMs with an average rating of 2278 in Group A making it a very strong event. Top seed GM Vladimir Fedoseev (SLO) and the highest rated Indian in the field - GM Bharath Subramaniyam H made a winning start. A 97-year-old players drew his first round game against a 70-year-old opponent in Group C. Round 2 starts tomorrow at 3 p.m. local time, 6:30 p.m. IST. Arjun Erigaisi started off 29th TePe Sigeman & Co Chess Tournament 2024 with a win over reigning Women's World Champion - Wenjun Ju (CHN). The win moved him up to World no.5 in the live ratings. Wenjun played a line in the Grunfeld which she herself won with the white pieces. However, in this game, it was Arjun who deviated and capitalized on his opponent's mistake. Anton Korobov (UKR) also started with a win as he seized his opportunity against Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) in the endgame. Marc` Andria Maurizzi's (FRA) ambitious approach did not work against Vincent Keymer (GER). The defending champion, Peter Svidler drew against the Sweden no.1 - Nils Grandelius. Aaditya Dhingra triumphs at 3rd AFCA Rapid Rating Open 2024

IM Aaditya Dhingra scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 3rd AFCA Rapid Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Seven players - FM Namitbir Singh Walia, Dhrupad Kashyap, FM Garv Gaur, Sahil Bheron, Mrityunjay Kumar, IM Aradhya Garg and Aarit Kapil scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second to eighth according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹500000. The top three prizes were ₹51000, ₹35000 and ₹25000 along with a trophy each respectively. The two-day nine round Rapid Rating tournament was organized by All Faridabad Chess Association at Amrita Hospital in Faridabad, Haryana on 13th and 14th April 2024. This is Aaditya's third tournament triumph in 2024.

17-year-old D Gukesh created history by becoming the youngest ever chess player to win the FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament! After his victory, the whole nation was elated and was eagerly waiting for Gukesh's return from Toronto. We decided to cover this magnificent event - Gukesh's homecoming on 25th April, 2 AM IST. Gukesh 'The Conqueror' receives a grand welcome at his homecoming

GM D Gukesh has done something at the age of 17 years which at one point was quite difficult to fathom for any chess player. Vishy Anand was the first Indian to win the Candidates, Gukesh became the second on 21st April, exactly four months after securing his spot at the coveted tournament. After a long time, he was met his mother at the airport when he landed at 3 a.m. IST on 25th April 2024. How was the reception? IM Himal Gusain, Gourav Nigam and Arun Kataria scored 8/9 each at Padma Shri Late Abhay Chhajlani Memorial 2nd UICC Rapid Rating Open 2024. Himal won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Gourav was placed second and Arun third. Himal defeated the eventual runner-up Gourav in the penultimate round and drew with the second runner-up, Arun in the final round. Both Himal and Arun remained undefeated. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹25000 and ₹20000 along with a trophy each respectively. 14-year-old Charith Bhat clear champion at 10th ICA Below 1800 Rating Open 2024

112th seeded Charith Bhat scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 10th ICA Below 1800 Rating Tournament 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Seven players scored 7.5/9 each. Among them Yogesh Selvam and Shanmukha Pulli secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹999000. The top three prizes were ₹74999 + trophy, ₹65000 and ₹55000 each respectively. The three-day nine round Rating tournament was organized by Innovators Chess Academy at Silicon City Academy of Secondary Education in Bengaluru, Karnataka from 12th to 14th April 2024. 7th Sharjah Masters 2024 starts on 14th May

Sharjah Masters is regarded as one of the strongest Swiss chess tournaments held in the calendar year. Last year, a total of 78 Grandmasters above 2518 took part in the Masters. The event was won by Arjun Erigaisi, and D Gukesh finished third. The seventh edition will take place from 14th to 23rd May 2024. GM Parham Maghsoodloo is the top seed of the Masters section. Nihal Sarin will be the highest rated Indian in the field. There are also two more sections - Challengers and Futures. The nine-round Classical Swiss tournament will be an exciting affair as usual with many top Grandmasters from India and the World taking part. Read all about the tournament in the article below.
