GCT Finals SF G2: A quick day

GM R Praggnanandhaa opted for the Caro-Kann with the black pieces in the second Semifinal game of Grand Chess Tour 2025 Finals. The World Blitz 2021 champion got surprised momentarily. However, the game ended in a draw in just 21 moves. The battle between Levon Aronian (USA) and Fabiano Caruana (USA) also ended in a draw. It lasted five more moves than the other game. Both games finished in under two hours. All four players have six points each. Two Rapid and four Blitz games will be played. Semifinal continues today at 3 p.m. local time, 11:30 p.m. IST. In every sphere of life, there comes a time when the next generation takes over the old guard. In sports, it is generally earned not given. On the top board, IM Ayush Sharma (RSPB) showed incredible resiliency and resourcefulness to salvage a draw against the legend, GM Sasikiran Krishnan (PSPB). Despite having an inferior position, Ayush did not give up, instead, he found a way to stay in the fight. It is very much possible that IM Anup Deshmukh's (MAH), Ayush's coach and mentor's pre-game words inspired him to fight well. IM Goutham Krishna H (KER), IM Ritviz Parab (Goa) and IM Manish Anto Cristiano F (TN) defeated three former champions, GM Abhijeet Gupta (PSPB), GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly (PSPB) and GM Sethuraman S P (PSPB). Kartavya Anadkat wins 2nd Royal Jaipur Rapid Rating Open 2025

Kartavya Anadkat and Shrayan Majumder scored 8/9 each at 2nd Royal Jaipur Rapid Rating Open 2025. Kartavya won the tournament as he had the better tie-break score. Shrayan secured second place. Four players - FM Garv Gaur, Daksh Goyal, IM Anuj Shrivatri and Vivek Sharma scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed third to sixth respectively. Only Kartavya remained undefeated. The total prize fund was ₹750000. The top three prizes were ₹75000, ₹50000 and ₹30000 along with a trophy each. The two-day nine round Rapid Rating  tournament was organized by Royal Jaipur Chess Club and Services in collaboration with Waves at Hotel Amar Palace in Jaipur, Rajasthan on 6th and 7th September 2025. GM R Praggnanandhaa made a shaky start in the first Semifinal game of Grand Chess Tour 2025 Finals. The World no.4 made an inaccuracy in the rook and few pawns endgame which shifted the balance in favor of GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA). The World Blitz 2021 after initially seizing his opportunity, could not make the most out of it and allowed his opponent to escape with a draw. Thus, both players got three points each. GM Sasikiran Krishnan (PSPB) defeated GM Deep Sengupta (PSPB) to maintain his lead at 62nd National Championship 2025. Deep self-exiled his own king by pushing it towards the corner of the board. It cost him the game. GM Abhijeet Gupta (PSPB) got the better of IM Ajay Santhosh Parvathareddy (UP) who went wrong in a complex rook and minor piece endgame with both sides having the same number of pawns. The top seed of the tournament and reigning National Rapid champion, GM Iniyan Pa (TN) crushed IM Harsh Suresh (TN) with a brutal attack on his king. Praggnanandhaa, MVL, Caruana and Aronian to battle at Grand Chess Tour 2025 Finals

The Grand Chess Tour 2025 Finals starts today at World Trade Center in Sao Paulo, Brazil. R Praggnanandhaa will face Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA) and Fabiano Caruana (USA) will be up against Levon Aronian (USA). Praggnanandhaa and Caruana will get the white pieces in the first Classical game. They will have reversed colors in Rapid and Blitz matches. Each Semifinal consists of two Classical, two Rapid and four Blitz games. All matches will be played to completion, even if the match is already decided. Each match will have a maximum of 28 points. 62nd National Championship R7: Deep, Ayush and Harsh join the leaders' pack

The top six boards ended in a draw in 31 moves or less at 62nd National Championship 2025 Round 7. It allowed GM Deep Sengupta (PSPB), GM-elect IM Ayush Sharma (RSPB) and IM Harsh Suresh (TN) to catch up. Deep defeated IM Sidhant Mohapatra (RSPB) who went wrong in the double rook and knight endgame. Deep's passed pawn was superior which helped him earn the victory. Ayush thwarted IM Manish Anto Cristiano F's (TN) ambitious knight sacrifice. Harsh capitalized on IM Subhayan Kundu's (RSPB) late mistake ina rook and many pawns endgame. Seven players including the previous day leaders - GM Sasikiran Krishan (PSPB), IM Aronyak Ghosh (RSPB), IM Ajay Santhosh Parvathareddy (UP) and GM Abhijeet Gupta (PSPB) are now at 6/7 each. Sathwik D S S U and Aditya Varun Gampa win Vizag Rapid and Blitz Rating Open 2025

Sathwik D S S U, Sravyasree Bheemarasetty and Nyna Gorli scored 8/9 each at Vizag Rapid Rating Open 2025. Sathwik won the tournament on tie-breaks. Sravyasree and Nyna were placed second and third according to tie-breaks. Sathwik defeated the evetual runner-up, Sravyasree in Round 6 and lost to the second runner-up, Nyna in Round 7. The total prize fund in Rapid Rating was ₹150000. The top three prizes were ₹10500, ₹8000 and ₹7000 along with a trophy each. FM Aditya Varun Gampa, Arav Baid, Sathwik D S S U and Ram Charan Teja Majji scored 8/9 each in the Blitz Rating Open. Aditya became champion. The remaining three were placed second to fourth respectively. The total prize fund in Blitz Rating was ₹50000. The top three prizes were ₹5000, ₹3000 and ₹2000 along with trophy each. This is Sathwik's fourth overall and first rating tournament triumph of the year. 62nd National Championship R6: Ajay Parvathareddy and Abhijeet Gupta join Sasikiran and Aronyak in the lead

IM Aronyak Ghosh (RSPB) drew against his coleader, the legend, GM Sasikiran Krishnan (PSPB) at 62nd National Championship Round 3. Former National Champion, GM Abhijeet Gupta (PSPB) scored a crushing victory against IM Ameya Audi (Goa). IM Ajay Santhosh Parvathareddy (UP) got the better of IM Aaditya Dhingra (HAR). Thus, Sasikiran, Aronyak, Ajay and Abhijeet are the four players currently in the lead at 5.5/6 each. They are followed by 15 players at 5/6 each. It certainly gives an inkling of how strong and close the competition is. The six-time National Champion, GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly (PSPB) made a narrow escape against former National Challenger champion, IM Ravi Teja S (AP) as the latter repeated the same position three times which resulted in a photographic draw. ONGC Sports Scholarship Scheme 2025-26

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has announced their sports scholarship scheme 2025-26. The scholarship is valid for any chess player between the age of 15 and 20 years. A total of four scholarships will be granted based on merit to both men and women in two different categories. Economically Weaker Section will be given a priority. Applications will only be accepted via online methods. On air with World Chess Champion D Gukesh

Gukesh..Gukesh..Gukesh..the crowd screamed, welcoming the youngest world chess champion on the stage. A bit overwhelmed, but extremely calm and composed, the 19-year-old youngster took the stage in a foreign land where people waited to watch him. And as humble as he is, Gukesh shared his thoughts on the stage! As the audience cheered in applause, he said, "Just keep loving chess". Gukesh was invited to be a part of a two day event in Poland and these were two of the most incredible days that we had spent with Gukesh! In this article, we want to share our experience. Sarbartho Mani defeated Moxuan Bai (CHN) to score a double hat-trick an emerge sole leader at World Cadet Under-10 Open 2025. Shunzhe Yuan (CHN) is the sole pursuer at 5.5/6. They will inevitably clash in the seventh round. Sattwik Swain is at 5/6. In Under-10 Girls, WCM Divi Bijesh defeated Vanshika Rawat to move to 5.5/6. She is at a half point behind WCM Chinzorig Nandinjiguur (MGL) 6/6. CM Madhvendra Pratap Sharma drew against one of the leaders, CM Ethan Guo (USA) to move to 5/6. CM Danis Kuandykuly (KAZ) and CM Ali Poyraz Uzdemir (TUR) are the coleaders at 5.5/6 each in Under-12 Open. WFM Laurie Qiu (USA) is the sole leader in Under-12 Girls. She is at a perfect score 6/6. IM Aronyak Ghosh (RSPB) and GM Sasikiran Krishnan (PSPB) have emerged coleaders at 62nd National Championship 2025. The four-time National champion showcased a positional masterclass against IM Goutham Krishna H (KER). IM Aronyak Ghosh (RSPB) scored a smooth victory over IM Kashish Manoj Jain (MAH). Both Sasikiran and Aronyak are inevitably going to clash at the halfway mark, in the sixth round. GM Sethuraman S P (PSPB) and IM Ameya Audi (Goa) played a barn burner. It was a rich complex game where one can easily delve a lot of hours into it. Aditya Samant triumphs at 91st Southwest Open 2025

GM Aditya S Samant scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to win 91st Southwest Open Round-Robin International 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. GM Shawn Rodrigue-Lemieux (CAN) scored 7/9 to secure second place. GM Balaji Daggupati (USA) scored 6.5/9 to finish third. The top three prizes were US$ 3000, $1500 and $500 in the International section. Aditya drew against both runners-up. The five-day nine round Round-Robin Rating tournament was organized by David Ortiz at Wyndham Garden McAllen Hotel in McAllen, Texas, USA from 28th August to 1st September 2025.
