World Rapid Team 2024 R1-4: Rapport stuns Magnus in 23 moves, helps Chessy crush WR Chess

The Artist, Richard Rapport scored a sensational win over Magnus Carlsen to ensure his team Chessy's crushing victory over WR Chess. The Hungary no.1 who is known to play creative and exciting chess, surprised the World no.1 in the opening. Delaying the castle and keeping his king stranded at the center of the board allowed Rapport to score a win. The defending champion WR Chess succumbed to Chessy 1-5 after barely managing to win their previous two rounds. Meanwhile, the sole leader Chessy is looking very strong and balanced as they won all four matches to emerge sole leader 8/8. Vidit is the only player of Chessy who lost both games. This August, play three Rapid Rating tournaments in West Bengal. The first one is an International Rapid Rating Open on Thursday 22nd August. It will be organized by Checkmate Chess Academy at ICCR, Kolkata, West Bengal. The total prize fund is ₹500000. The second event is - St. Xavier's College (Calcutta) Alumni Association and Department of Sports, St. Xavier's College (Autonomous) presents All Bengal Rapid Rating Open 2024. It will be held from 24th to 26th August. The total prize fund is ₹200000. Special attraction will be the World no.4 and India no.1 - GM Arjun Erigaisi. He will be the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony and also play Simultaneous Exhibition games. The third event is TCCCA All India Rapid Rating Open 2024. The second edition of FIDE World Rapid Team Championship is starting today in Astana, Kazakhstan. A total of 12 Indians are going to take part, third after Kazakhstan 159 and Kyrgyzstan 13. Arjun Erigaisi, R Praggnanandhaa, Vidit Gujrathi, Nihal Sarin, Raunak Sadhwani, S L Narayanan, Pranav V, B Adhiban, Srinath Narayanan, Koneru Humpy, Harika Dronavalli and Mihir Shah will be representing their respective teams. A total of 303 players in 39 teams representing 32 countries are slated to take part. The total prize fund in Rapid is €250000, for Blitz €100000. The top three prizes in Rapid are €100000, 60000 and 40000 each, for Blitz €40000, €25000 and €17500 each respectively. There will be four rounds every day from 2nd to 4th August 2024. Arjun Erigaisi and D Gukesh maintained their place in World top ten in FIDE Rating list August 2024. After months of non-stop action, Arjun finally took some rest. Thus, his rating remained unchanged. D Gukesh gained a valuable 3.2 Elo rating points at Superbet Chess Classic Romania to move to World no.6. Praggnanandhaa's tough run at 57th Biel Chess Festival GMT dropped him to no.12. Currently, there are four Indians in top 12, five in top 22, six in top 31, seven in top 39 and eleven in top 83. Among the Women, there are three Indians in top 12 and four in top 18. GM R Vaishali moved up to World no.11 and India no.2 among women after her fantastic performance at Biel Festival GMT. Sriram Adarsh Uppala and Tejaswini G are the 34th National Under-17 Open and Girls Chess Champions 2024

Sriram Adarsh Uppala (TEL) and WIM Tejaswini G (TN) scored an unbeaten 9.5/11 and 8.5/11 each to win 34th National Under-17 Open and Girls Chess Championship 2024 respectively. Arpith S Bijoy (KER) also scored 9.5/11. He secured second on tie-breaks. Four players - FM Jaiveer Mahendru (MAH), Nandish V S (TN), Abhinav Raj (DEL) and Mukund Hemant Agarwal (GUJ) scored 8.5/11 each. They were placed third to sixth respectively. In the Girls event, three more - Kirthika B (TEL), WCM Anupam M Sreekumar (KER) and Sravyasree Bheemarasetty (AP) also scored 8.5/11 each. They finish at second to fourth place according to tie-breaks. This is Sriram's second overall, first rating tournament triumph of the year. Savitha Shri B is the 13th Indian female to become an International Master

WGM Savitha Shri B became the 12th Indian woman to earn the International Master. The 16-year-old crossed the 2400 rating barrier when she had a 2435 published rating list in September 2022. She secured her final WGM and first IM-norm at Fagernes GM Open 2023. In less than two months, she scored her second IM-norm again in Norway at Norway Chess Open 2023. A year a less than a month later, she secured her final IM-norm at 40th Andorra Open 2024. Thus, she became India's latest IM on 28th July in Andorra. The former Asian Junior Girls Gold medalist and youngest World Rapid Women Bronze medal winner, Savitha Shri is definitely going to aim for the highest title - Grandmaster. Shahil Dey wins 17th Plancoët Open 2024

IM Shahil Dey, IM Egor Bogdanov (UKR), IM Fabien Guilleux (FRA) and GM Radoslav Dimitrov scored 7/9 each at 17th Plancoët Open A (>1800) 2024. Shahil won the tournament on tie-breaks. The remaining three were placed second to fourth respectively. Top two remained undefeated. Shahil drew with both runners-up. The teenager earned his second GM-norm. The total prize fund of Open A was €6000. The top three prizes were €1200 + trophy, €900 and €600 each. The seven-day nine round Rating Open tournament was organized by Emeraude Echecs at Salle Omnisport de Plancoet in Plancoet, France from 13th to 19th July 2024. Four players - IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni, Nithin Babu, IM Dinesh Kumar Sharma and Bhaavan Kolla scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second to fifth according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹1000000. The top three prizes were ₹100000, ₹70000 and ₹40000 along with a trophy each respectively. On the 23rd of May, 2024, The city of Bengaluru witnessed one of the most awaited events as the WestBridge Anand Chess Academy (WACA) held a grand celebration at the Good Shepherd Auditorium. With over 800 people attending, the event was a showcase of talent and inspiration. The highlight of the evening was the simul featuring Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand, along with prodigies Gukesh, Praggnanandhaa, Vaishali, and WACA mentor and trainer Sandipan, who took on 15 of Bangalore's finest young players.The main event of the evening, the simul, had the WACA team facing 15 young talents, each with their own potential. JDCA invites trainers to teach in Jaffna, Sri Lanka

Himal Gusain convincingly clinches 14th Salon Open 2024

Top seed IM Himal Gusain scored an unbeaten 7/9 to win 14th Salon Open A 2024. He finished a full point ahead of the competition. IM Philippe Guillaume (FRA) scored sole 6.5/9 to secure second place. He also remained undefeated. IM Armen Petrosyan (ARM) edged past three more players to finish third 6/9. Himal drew with Philippe in Round 5 and defeated Armen in the following round.
