FIDE Council approves new format for 2027 World Cup and Women’s World Cup

The FIDE Council has approved a series of significant changes to the format of the 2027 FIDE World Cup and the 2027 FIDE Women’s World Cup, following recommendations from the Global Strategy Commission. They aim to make the competitions more inclusive, improve the experience for players, reduce the overall duration of the events, and ensure the World Cups remain one of the flagship competitions in the World Championship cycle.

Manish Anto Cristiano scored an unbeaten 8/9 points to win the 13th BBCF International Fide Rapid Rating 2026. Manish repeated the same performance, scoring another unbeaten 8/9 to win the 14th BBCF Blitz Rating 2026. The Rapid and Blitz tournaments were organised by Brains Behind Chess Foundation on 20th and 21st June at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. A recap of the Big Chess Inter-School Tournament 2026

The third edition of The Big Chess Inter-School Tournament was held on 4th and 5th July 2026 at Dublin Square, Phoenix Marketcity Mall, Mumbai. A total of 165 players from schools across the city competed across six age categories. The top finishers were awarded trophies and medals, while the top two in each category qualified for the National Schools Chess Championships. 59th Biel Chess Festival 2026 Day 2: Levon Aronian Goes On a Rampage

After the 1st day of Chess960, the real action began at Biel. On the 2nd day, the action kicks off with the highly anticipated Triathlon. It featured Rapid games in both the Masters and the Generations Challenge. Levon Aronian dominated the field with 9 points. Levon drew his 1st game against Suleymanli and won 4 consecutive games to gain a clear 3-point lead. In the Generations Challenge, Finek Vaclav ended the day on top with 8 points. From 17 to 21 June 2026, the Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Hong Kong hosted the fourth edition of the FIDE World Team Rapid and Blitz Championships - the first time this event came to East Asia. 48 teams, more than 400 players across the full programme, a €500,000 prize fund, and very nearly every big name in world chess under one roof. Top seed Grandmaster Abhijeet Gupta of India emerged champion with 7.5 points at the Pune International Grandmaster Round Robin Chess Tournament, Organised by Buddhibal Kreeda Trust and Powered by The Habitat. International Master Aswath S finished runner-up with 7 points and, in the process, achieved his third and final Grandmaster norm to become India's 98th Grandmaster.
