What originally looked like a comfortable Sunday cruise for Alireza Firouzja transformed into one of the most nerve-wracking, volatile final days in the history of the tour, culminating in the first-ever GCT title decided by an Armageddon playoff. 08/07/2026 - On 8th July 2026, at the first-ever Pune International GM Round Robin, 18-year-old Aswath S won on demand in the final round to become India's 98th Grandmaster, while Pune's young FM Advik Agrawal secured an IM norm. The tournament was the lifelong dream of Prakash Kunte - the beloved "Kunte Kaka" - who passed away just a day before its conclusion, while his son GM Abhijit Kunte brought his vision to life.

Rudra scored a perfect 8/8, and then he lost the final round, but better tiebreaks helped him clinch the title. In the Under-7 Girls group, Ns Liyaa Krishnan of Maharashtra scored a perfect 9/9 to win the National Championship with a clear 1.5 point lead. 07/07/2026 - Four talented Indian youngsters excelled at the FIDE World Cup Cadets 2026, securing four medals for the country. Divi Bijesh clinched back-to-back gold medals in consecutive editions. She scored 9/11 points to win the gold medal in Under-12 Girls. In the Under-10 Open, two Indian players secured podium finishes. Sarbartho Mani and Sattwin Swain scored 8.5/11 to finish in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively. In the Under-8 Girls, Saiaastha Singh secured the Bronze Medal after scoring 8.5/11 points.
