India wins the Nona Gaprindashvili Cup

In 2022, the Indian team secured a bronze medal in both sections in Chennai. In 2024, India secured Gold in both the Open and Women's sections in Budapest, and this year the Indian team managed to secure a silver medal in the Open and bronze in the Women's section.

For the 3rd consecutive time, India won the Nona Gaprindashvili Cup, for the best combined performance across the Open and Women’s sections. This shows that India is slowly and steadily becoming the superpower of Chess

Final Round

The situation before the final round was very clear: if Uzbekistan wins, they win the gold no matter the result of the Indian team. Uzbekistan defeated Ukraine 2.5-1.5 and secured the gold. Indian team was in some trouble as Gukesh had a terrible position out of the opening, but Arjun saved the day and defeated Peter Leko to draw the match with Hungary, and the Indian team secured Silver.

Format

System: Swiss format, 11 rounds

Team size: 5 players per squad, 4 play each round

Time control: 90 min for 40 moves + 30 min for the rest, with a 30-sec increment from move 1
