Sharnarthi Shlok leading at 5th Athens Of The East
The 5th Athens of the East International Grandmaster Open is currently taking place in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. Organized by the Ananthi Chess Academy, this event is a major part of the Tamil Nadu Chess Festival.The tournament began on December 24 and will conclude on December 31, 2025. Games are being held at the Amika Hotel.The total cash prize pool is ₹48,00,000 In addition to money, the tournament is famous for giving away 8 brand-new cars, 3 bikes, and 100 cycles to winners in different categories. Untitled Sharnarthi Shlok beat 2nd seeded Grandmaster L R Srihari in the 4th round and GM Alexei Fedorov of Belarus and Sharnarthi Shlok are now leading with 4 points, and now both of the players will face each other in round 5. Sharnarthi Shocked Everyone with 4/4
A 16 year old prodigy from maharashtra won his 4/4 games to start the event in a great style, sharnarthi is still untitled but he won against 3 titled players to reach the perfect score. He won with the white pieces against FM Ashwin Sairam and GM Srihari LR and with the black pieces he beat FM Dhananjay S from Chhatisgarh. Sharnarthi also increased his rating by 110 points in just 4 rounds and today he is playing against the co-leader of the event GM Alexei Fedorov of Belarus. Aarit Kapil the Youngster from Delhi is also performing really well and he is just half point behind the leaders after holding arpan das for a draw.
