Yash Manoj Upadhye dominates 3rd Goa GM Category C Below 1700 Rating Tournament 2025

Yash Manoj Upadhye scored an unbeaten 9/10 to win Late Shri Manohar Parrikar 3rd Goa GM Category C Below 1700 Rating Tournament 2025. He finished a full point ahead of the field. Six players - Joshua Mark Telles, Joy Kakodkar, Rudresh Fadte, Aarav Arpit Shah, Vansh Rasik Gala and Prakhar Raj scored 8/10 each. They secured second to seventh place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹1300000. The top three prizes were ₹135000, ₹105000 and ₹90000 along with a trophy each respectively. The four-day ten-round Swiss league rating tournament was organized by Goa Chess Association at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Panaji, Goa from 16th to 19th January 2025. 10-year-old Joshua impresses

Top seed of the tournament, Yash Manoj Upadhye was the sole leader 8.5/9, heading into the final round. Joshua Mark Telles, Rudresh Fadte and Vansh Rasik Gala were the only three trailing by a full point at 7.5/9 each. A draw was enough for Yash to become the champion and that's what he did against Rudresh. Joshua drew with Vansh to secure second place. Joy Kakodkar defeated Saiesh Audi to finish third. 11-year-old Joshua delivered an impressive performance and he is the youngest top ten finisher of the event.

A total of 390 players took part from various parts of India and one from Hungary in the Open C (Below 1700) category. The four-day ten round Rating tournament was organized by Goa Chess Association at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Panaji, Goa from 16th to 19th January 2025. The time control of the event was 60 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
