Sethuraman could not get out of the gate against Slihevsky. Nitin made a human decision in a complex position which gave his opponent the upper hand. Slizhevsky - Sethuraman

Position after 28...Nd7?

GM Sethuraman S P's (2560) position was cramped. 28...Nd7? attempting to capture the bishop did not do any favors. 29.Kh2 Nxb6 30.axb6 Rd7 31.g5 hxg5 32.Qxg5 dxe4 33.Nxg7 Qg6 34.Nxe8 and IM Alexander Slizhevsky (2340) won.

Semetei - Nitin

Position after 25.b3

IM Nitin S (2338) played the obvious 25...Nb6. However, computer says the counterintuitive 25...Nb2 is the correct way for Black to proceed. 26.Rb1 is met with b4, so the knight never gets trapped. 26.e5 Re8? did not help his case. 27.exd6 alternatively IM Semetei Tologon Tegin (KGZ, 2351) could have played 27.Bxc6! try to work out how White recovers the piece after Bxc6. The game continued 27...Qxd6 28.Qf3 after few moves, Black lost material in a difficult position and also the game.

Mitrabha - Duc Hoa

Position after 32...Qa1??

White is winning in the above position after 32...Qa1?? Find out the winning continuation which GM Mitrabha Guha (2509) missed against GM Duc Hoa Nguyen (VIE, 2359).

Sayantan - Saravana

Position after 41.Rh2

IM P Saravana Krishnan (2244) needed to capture the c4-pawn 41...Qxc4 to ensure the queen can come to the aid of the king. Instead, 41...f6?? helped his opponent, GM Sayantan Das 42.Qe6+ Kg7 43.Kg4! the king is sheltered temporarily on g4 and the rook's path is also open Qb7 44.Rd2 threatening Rd7+ and Rf7 will be met with 45.Rd8. Black moved his king 44...Kh6 45.Rd7 Qb1 46.Qe7 f5+ 47.Kf4 Qc1+ 48.Ke5 Qc3+ 49.Ke6 preventing Qf6+ and trade of queens 49...Qxc4+ 50.Kd6 Qd4+ 51.Kc7 Qf6 and it's over as there is a checkmate in two moves.

Savchenko - Sriram

Position after 26.g4?

GM Boris Savchenko (2481) decided to exchange his rook and two pawns for two minor pieces 26.g4? Nxe1 27.gxf5 Nxf3+ 28.Qxf3 Rxf5 29.Qd3 Qe7 30.Nxd5? an unforced error cxd5 31.Qxd5+ Kg7 Sriram Adarsh Uppala (2306) went on to win the game with precise play.

Uurtsaikh - Nithin

Position after 28.Nc5

To beat stronger opponents, one must take every chance they get 28...Rxf3! Nithin Babu (2169) made a nice practical exchange sacrifice 29.gxf3 Nd2 30.Ra1 Nxf3+ 31.Kf1 Nxd4 32.Nd3 Ne4 33.Ne5 Nd6 34.Rd7 N4f5 35.Ra6 Re8 36.f4 f6 37.Nf3? Ne4 and Black went on to checkmate IM Uurtsaikh Agibileg's (MGL, 2392) king eventually.

Marat - Arpita

Position after 23.Nd2??

GM Marat Dzhumaev (UZB, 2364) erred 23.Nd2?? inviting thematic sacrifice Nxf2. WIM Arpita Mukherjee (2133) decided to trade the bishops first 23...Bxg2 24.Kxg2 Nxf2 25.Kxf2 Rd3 26.Qxc4 Qxe3+ 27.Kg2 Rxd2+ 28.Rxd2 Qxd2+ and Black went on to win in the rook endgame.
