The BM Samay Raina simul

by Sagar Shah - 01/04/2022

Samay Raina is one of India's best-known stand-up comedians, who is also a huge chess lover. Apart from just loving the game, Samay also is very competitive at it and hates to lose! That's the reason why we at ChessBase India have posed him with a massive challenge! On 4th of April 2022, Samay will take part in a simul that will be held at the ChessBase India Chess Club in the Phoenix Marketcity, Mumbai from 4 p.m. onwards. Samay will play against 20 opponents. Our challenge to him is to win 10 games at the event. If you are a player who is rated below 1200 in online chess (not FIDE rated) then do fill in the form. 20 players by lucky draw will get a chance to face Samay.

Samay Raina's simul on 4th of April 2022

The ChessBase India Chess Club began at the Phoenix Marketcity Mall in Mumbai on the 19th of March 2022. We have had one simul by Amruta Mokal and two regular sessions on Saturdays. Our next Saturday session from 5-7 p.m. will be held on 2nd of April 2022. But on 4th of April 2022 (from 4 p.m. onwards), we have a big event! It's called the BM simul! Why BM? Well, that's because Samay Raina likes to call himself the Blunder Master (BM)! Samay will take on 20 players in a simultaneous exhibition that is not going to be easy for the stand-up comedian.

Speaking to ChessBase India, Samay said, "I am very excited. I recently participated in a simul against Judit Polgar with Sagar and she crushed us. I can't imagine how she handled so many boards! I am excited to feel the pressure and exhaustion that players feel when giving a simul. Hopefully I'll win some games." We have a small challenge for Samay. If he scores anything more than 10 points, he would have won the simul. If he scores less than 10, then the chat has won it and if he scores 10, then the simul is a draw.

All those who beat Samay will receive the "Sab Samay ka khel hai bhai" t-shirt from ChessBase India as a prize.

There will also be special gift hampers from Phoenix Marketcity for the participants as well as the spectators. There will also be quiz questions asked to the spectators who can win prizes.

Who can play the simul?

Samay Raina is a stand-up comedian who started streaming chess actively in the pandemic from March 2020. It's been roughly 2 years and from a rating of roughly around 1000, he has now reached an Elo of around 1800 on chess.com. Samay doesn't have a FIDE rating yet. A lot of people started their chess journey watching Samay play online. Hence, this simul is a chance for them to match their wits against the man who inspired them on their chess journey. In order to keep the simul manageable we have come up with some rules. Only the following players can play against Samay:

1. You should not be a FIDE rated player

2. Your online rating (on any platform) should be less than 1200 in Rapid and Blitz both. This rating should be below 1200 as on 1st of April 2022, not after it.

3. The account should not have been created between 1st of April and the date of the event

4. You should have played a minimum of 100 games online.

Only those who are eligible on all four counts above are eligible to play the simul. If you are not eligible, please don't fill in the form. From all the entries that we receive, lucky draw will be done at the venue and 20 people will get to play against Samay.

Fill in the form to play against Samay at the simul

We request you to not fill the form if you do not meet the above criteria. If your rating is above 1200, you will not get to play, but if you visit come to the venue would definitely get a chance to interact with him.

The event will be held at the Phoenix Marketcity, Kurla in Mumbai

It will be held in the Atrium 5 area which is also the venue of the ChessBase India Chess Club

The ChessBase India Chess Club session will be held on 2nd of April 2022 at 5-7 p.m. like we do on every Saturday and on 4th of April 2022 we will have the simul with Samay Raina. Would you like us to keep a session on 3rd of April (Sunday) morning as well? Maybe we can make it into three days of fun chess at the Phoenix Marketcity mall.
