Paarth P Salvi dominates Late Lt. Cdr. Gopal Sakharam Sukthankar Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2023

Third seeded Paarth P Salvi scored 8.5/9 to win Late Lt. Cdr. Gopal Sakharam Sukthankar Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Mandar Pradip Lad scored sole 8/9. His only loss was against the eventual champion Paarth in the seventh round. Four players - Aayush Shirodkar, Aryan Shamrao Raikar, Chaintany V Gaonkar and Mayuresh Laxlabh Desai scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed third to sixth each. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹60000. The top three prizes were ₹12000, ₹9000 and ₹6000 along with a trophy each. Entry fee was only ₹300 to encourage maximum participation. Paarth's first rating tournament victory of his career

Mushtifund High School's Parent-Teacher Association has been conducting this event for last 12 years and second time they conducted this as a Rapid Rated tournament. Paarth P Salvi was the sole leader heading into the final round 7/7. He was a full point ahead of others. A draw was enough to win the tournament. That's what he did against Sirsat Shekhar V. Paarth has won quite a few tournaments. This was his second tournament triumph of the year and for the first time the teenager won a rating tournament.

The tournament was inaugurated by the Chief Guest - Mr. Bhuvanish Sheth, Partner MHS, Sagar Agni (MPTA Chairman), Mrs. Anish Salgaonkar, Secretary MPTA, IA Arvind Mhamal, FA Dattaram Pinge, Vedashree Lawande, and other members of MPTA.

A total of 255 players took part from various places of Goa in this two-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Mushtifund High School's Parent-Teacher Association at Menezes Braganza Hall in Panaji, Goa on 28th and 29th October 2023. The time control of the event was 20 minutes + 10 seconds increment per move.
