Mandar Pradip Lad prevails at Goa State Senior Open Rating 2024

Top seed Mandar Pradip Lad (Bardez) scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Goa State Senior Open Rating 2024. He finished a full point ahead of the rest. 9-year-old Aaryavrat Rasiket Naik Desai (Canacona) scored sole 7.5/9 to finish second. Devesh Anand Naik (Ponda) and 10-year-old Shubh Vishnu Borkar (Salcete) scored 7/9 each. They secured third and fourth place respectively according to tie-breaks. Mandar drew with eventual runner-up, Aaryavrat in the fourth round and defeated the second runner-up, Devesh in the eighth. The top three prizes were ₹10000, ₹7000 and ₹5000 along with a trophy each. The tournament was organized by Goa Chess Association at Government College of Commerce and Economics, Borda, Margao, Goa from 24th to 28th July 2024. Nine and Ten year olds shine

Mandar Pradip Lad was the sole leader heading into the final round with a score 7.5/8. He defeated Ayush Shirodkar to become the champion. 9-year-old Aaryavrat Rasiket Naik Desai scored an impressive 7.5/9 to finish second. He gained a massive 131.2 Elo rating points. Tenth seeded 10-year-old Shubh Vishnu Borkar scored 7/9 to finish fourth. Two ten year olds and younger, finishing in top ten in a State Senior Open event is certainly impressive. WCM Gunjal Chopdekar is the sole female to make a top ten finish. She scored 6.5/9 to be placed sixth.

The tournament was inaugurated by lighting the traditional lamp and making the first move on the board by Mr. Damodhar Zambaulikar, Vice President, Goa Chess Association, in presence of Dilip Vernekar, Treasurer, STCA, FA Jostna Saripalli, Amogh Namshikar, Joint Secretary, GCA, Nilesh Shirodkar,  FA Asha Shirodkar, IA Arvind Mhamal, Chief Arbiter and Vice President, GCA and others.

A total of 109 players took part from various districts across Goa in this five-day nine-round Swiss League Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Goa Chess Association at Goa Chess Association at Government College of Commerce and Economics, Borda in Margao, Goa from 24th to 28th July 2024. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
