Team World wins the Rapid event against Kazakhstan 34.5-29.5

Team Kazakhstan made a fantastic start on the second day by defeating team World in three consecutive matches. Each of them were won by a minimum margin 4.5-3.5. In the final round of the Rapid event, team World bounced back by winning 5.5-2.5 against team Kazakhstan. WIM Zsoka Gaal (HUN), IM Nurgyul Salimova (BUL) and WGM Savitha Shri B scored the key victories for World, while the remaining five games ended in draws. Thus, team World defeated team Kazakhstan 34.5-29.5 in the Rapid portion of te match. The Blitz event will be played in the same format with a time control of 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment. Kazakhstan beats World four times in-a-row

Kazakhstan beat World four times in-a-row to reduce the gap to 29-27. However, the much stronger team World showed their mettle by beating the home team, Kazakhstan 5.5-2.5 in the final round to win the rapid event. After losing all four matches on the first day, team Kazakhstan made a strong comeback on the second day. In the end it did not turn out to be enough.

Harika - Meruert, Match #5

Position after 10...Ne4

GM Harika Dronavalli (2447) kept rolling her h-pawn which induced an error by her opponent WIM Meruert Kamalidenova (KAZ, 2273). 10...Ne4? gave White a substantial advantage 11.Bf4 Ndf6 12.hxg6 hxg6 13.Ne5 a6 14.g4 and White went on to win the game in another 14 moves.

The total prize fund is US$ 50000. The winning team receives $30000, $20000 equally shared by the women players, $10000 equally shared by the youth players. The final part of the match will take place on Wednesday, 19th April in a Blitz event. The time control will be 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment.
