Kandi Santosh Sai Karthik dominates 1st Telangana Gurukulams Below 1600 Rating Tournament 2023

Kandi Santosh Sai Karthik scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Telangana Gurukulams All India Below 1600 Rating Tournament 2023. The 12-year-old finished a half point ahead of the field. Five players - Rohith N, Sree Shaunak Chanda, Phani Krishna C H, Sree Rama Anjani Kumar K and Surya Alakanti scored 8/9 each. They were placed second to sixth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹499999. Top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹30000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each respectively. The tournament was held from 2nd to 4th June 2023 at Sri Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Stadium in Hyderabad, Telangana. Kids and teen claim the podium

Three players - Kandi Santosh Sai Karthik, Rohith N and Phani Krishna C H were at 7.5/8 each heading into the final round. Rohith drew against Phani on the top board. Satvik Andabatla lost to Kandi. Thus, Kandi became a clear champion scoring 8.5/9. Rohith and Sree Shaunak Chanda were placed second and third respectively.

A total of 719 players took part from various states across the country and two from the USA in this three-day nine round Swiss-league Below 1600 Rating tournament which was organized by Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society at Sri Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Stadium in Hyderabad, Telangana from 2nd to 4th June 2023. The time control of the event was 30 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
