Chaitanya V Gaonkar convincingly clinches 6th Marvel Below 1800 Rating 2024

Chaitanya V Gaonkar scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 6th Marvel Below 1800 Rating Tournament 2024. The teenager finished a half point ahead of the field and gained 126 Elo rating points. Seetasagar Konaparthi and Shubham Kumar scored 8/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹600000. The top three prizes were ₹75000, ₹50000 and ₹40000 along with a trophy each respectively. The three-day rating tournament was organized by Rajashekar Bhagavatula from 3rd to 5th September 2024 at Puchalapalli Leela Sundarayya Function Hall in Hyderabad, Telangana. Chaitanya's first rating tournament triumph

Starting out as the 25th seed, Chaitanya V Gaonkar scored eight wins in-a-row. He had a full point going into the final round. He drew with Yash Kapadi to become a clear champion. Seetasagar Konaparthi and Shubham Kumar defeated Shanmukha Pulli and Surya Alakanti to finish second and third respectively. The top two places were claimed by the teenagers.

A total of 354 players took part from all over the country and also from Kenya, Malaysia, South Africa, Singapore and USA in this three-day nine round Below 1800 Rating tournament. It was organized by Rajashekar Bhagavatula at Puchalapalli Leela Sundarayya Function Hall in Hyderabad, Telangana from 3rd to 5th September 2024. The time control of the event was 30 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
