JDCA invites you to Jaffna International Chess Championship 2023 in Sri Lanka
Jaffna District Chess Association invites you to Jaffna International Chess Championship 2023. The inaugural edition is offering a first prize of LKR 200000 and a total prize fund of LKR 2.4 Million. A total of 150 prizes are up for grabs. Entry is FREE for GM, IM, WGM, WIM, FM, WFMs and players rated above 2000. Travel grant is offered to GM, IM, WGM, WIMs. Foreign players are given various conditions too. This year we have already witnessed five different Indians - GM Deepan Chakkravarthy, IM Raahul V S, IM Kushagra Mohan, GM Swapnil Dhopade and Indrajeet Mahindrakar win a tournament in Sri Lanka, Kushagra won two. This December play a rating open in Jaffna, Sri Lanka
Venue, Schedule and Eligibility
The tournament will take place at Chelva Palace, Kokuvil, Jaffna in Sri Lanka from 8th to 12th December 2023. There are double rounds every day. Blitz event will take place on 9th December 2023. The tournament is open for all rated and unrated players.
Prizes
The total prize fund is LKR 2.4 Million. The top three prizes in the Open category are LKR 200000, 150000 and 100000 along with a trophy and medal each. There are 20 main prizes, 50 rating category prizes including unrated; Top 3 in Best Women, Best Senior (Above 50 years), Best Under-6, Best Jaffna District (Boy and Girl), Best Mercantile and Best University player categories. Five age group - Under-7, Under-9, Under-11, Under-13 and Under-15 has trophies and medals each for the top three Boys and Girls. There are Mercantile/Corporate Sector and Higher Education Sector (Above 18 years) prizes for the top three finishers too. Check the image below for more details.
Entry fees
Entry is free for GM, IM, WGM, WIM, FM, WFM and players rated above 2000 in both Classical and Blitz Open events. For all other players, please check the images below for entry fee structure in both Open and Blitz events.
Travel Grant
GMs, IMs, WGMs and WIMs having over 2200 Elo rating (2000 for Women) will be given a travel grant of US$ 100 or air ticket will be provided for Tamil Nadu players - as mentioned in the tournament circular.
