Hage Lasa Nado wins 1st Garo Hills Rating Tournament 2022

Hage Lasa Nado scored 8/9 to win 1st Garo Hills Rating Tournament 2022. Despite losing his second round game, Hage registered seven consecutive victories, including an important win over the top seed Dupit Tabu in the final round to become the champion. Dupit scored sole 7.5/9 to finish second. Five players scored 7/9. Barbith M Sangma was placed third according to the tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹177000. The top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹20000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each. This was the first-ever Rating tournament in Meghalaya for the players of Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh players only. Hage Lasa Nado won his second tournament in his career, first-ever Classical and Rating tournament triumph. Previously, he had won Arunachal Pradesh State Blitz in 2018. A last round victory over the rating favorite and then sole leader, Dupit Tabu earned him the first place finish. Dupit had to be content with a second place finish. Local lad from Garo Hills, Barbith M Sangma secured third place.

A total of 101 players took part from Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. The six-day nine-round Swiss league Classical Rating tournament was organized by Garo Hills Chess Association at SMELC Building Dakkopgre at Tura, Meghalaya from 3rd to 8th October 2022. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
