Goutham Krishna H and Arshiya Das are National Sub-Junior Open and Girls 2025 Champions
IM Goutham Krishna H (KER) and FM Rosh Jain (DEL) scored 9.5/11 each at 50th National Sub-Junior Under-15 Open 2025. Goutham became champion on tie-breaks, Rosh secured second place. Goutham's sole loss of the event was against the eventual runner-up, Rosh. They both finished a full point ahead of the rest. CM Prathamesh Sherla (MAH) edged past half a dozen players on tie-breaks to finish third with a score of 8.5/11. WFM Arshiya Das (TRI) scored 10.5/11 to win the 41st National Sub-Junior Girls. She won the tournament with a round to spare and finished a whopping 1.5 points ahead of the competition. WCM Pratitee Bordoloi (KAR) scored 9/11 to secure second place. WCM Akshaya Sathi (KAR) scored 8.5/11 to finish third. The total prize fund combining Open and Girls section was ₹900000. Top class performance by the top seed Arshiya
IM Goutham Krishna H (KER), FM Rosh Jain (DEL) and FM Vivaan Vishal Shah (GUJ) were the three leaders 8.5/10 each, heading into the last round. Goutham defeated FM Viresh Sharnarthi to become the champion. Vivaan lost to Rosh and the latter secured second place. CM Prathamesh Sherla (MAH) won against CM Aarit Kapil (DEL) to finish third. In the Girls event, the top seed - WFM Arshiya Das (TRI) defeated WCM Akshaya Sathi (KAR) to win the tournament with one round to spare. Sravyasree Bheemarasetty (AP) lost to WCM Pratitee Bordoloi (KAR) who secured second place. Akshaya bounced back with a victory over Shraddha Bajaj (MAH) to finish third. Arshiya conceded only one draw in the third round against Anandhi P (KAR). Then she won her next eight games to decimate the field. It is not every day one gets to see such a domination and winning streak in the National.








Goutham - Prathamesh, Round 11

Viresh Sharnarthi (MAH, 2318) decided to sacrifice the knight. However, he did not find the correct follow through. IM Goutham Krishna H (2425) took the knight 17.axb4 cxb4?? trading the queens first was important for Black. 18.Bxb4+- Bxa2 19.Qd2 Qb3 20.Nd4 Qc4 21.Rc1 Nxe4 22.Bxe4 Qxd4 23.Bxa8 Rxa8 24.Rxa2 and it's over as Black cannot recover from the heavy material loss. The win turned out to be crucial for Goutham as FM Rosh Jain (DEL, 2363) also won his final round game. Goutham became champion due to better tie-break scores.


Arshiya - Akshaya, Round 10

WFM Arshiya Das (TRI, 2180) got a substantial advantage right out of the opening against WCM Akshaya Sathi (KAR, 1910). 16...Bxc6? 17.dxc6+- b4 18.Qd5 Be7 19.0-0-0 0-0 20.Rg1 Kh8 21.Rg4 and White won the game in ten more moves. This win ensured Arshiya winning the tournament with one round to spare. Despite the final round result being immaterial, Arshiya went on to beat WCM Shanmathi Sree S (TN, 1975) in the final round.



















A total of 355 including an IM in the Open and 151 players in the Girls tournament took part from various states across the country. The events were organized by UP Chess Sports Association at HRIT University in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh from 2nd to 10th November 2025. The eleven-round Swiss league tournament had a time control of 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1
