Commonwealth 2025: Daniel Howard Fernandez clinches Gold, Arjun Adireddy Silver and Lalit Rohit Bronze

GM Daniel Howard Fernandez (ENG) drew against FM Arjun Adireddy to clinch Gold at Commonwealth Chess Championships 2025 Open. He scored 7.5/9 and finished a half point ahead of the rest. Arjun secured a Silver medal scoring 7/9. A'qil A'lauddin Bin Abd Aziz (MAS) lost to GM Lalit Rohit and the latter got Bronze with the same score 7/9. WGM Srija Seshadri, WGM Mary Ann Gomes and IM Nisha Mohota won Gold, Silver and Bronze in the Women's category scoring 5.5/9 each. India won a total of 35 medals (13 Gold, 10 Silver and 12 Bronze) combining both Classical and Blitz events. GM Mitrabha Guha won Gold in Blitz with an unbeaten 8/9. Blitz: Mitrabha claims Gold, Deep Silver and Shyaam Nikhil Bronze; India wins 35 medal

CM Madhvendra Pratap Sharma is the only player to have won a double Gold - Under-12 Open Classical and Under-18 Open Classical. IM Akshay Borgaonkar won Gold in Under-16 Open Classical and Bronze in Under-18 Open Blitz. India has won a total of 35 medals, 30 of them were clinched in Classical and 5 in Blitz. This year no Rapid events took place, thus the total medal count became less than the previous edition. Indian players have made a clean sweep of medals in the following categories in Classical: Women, Under-8 Girls and Under-16 Girls, and Blitz Open. Total 33 different Indian players have a total of 35 medals. The total prize fund was RM 85000 (≈US$ 20000), RM 42000 in Open and RM 10000 in Blitz. The top three prizes in Open were RM 12000, 8000 and 5000. The top three prizes in Blitz were RM 2000, 1000 and 600.

Classical: Open - Silver and Bronze

GM Daniel Howard Fernandez (ENG, 2501) drew against FM Arjun Adireddy (2288) in the final round to clinch the Gold. The English GM scored 7.5/9 and finished a half point ahead of the rest. Arjun secured second place on tie-breaks to win Silver, scoring 7/9. A'qil A'lauddin Bin Abd Aziz (MAS, 2003) lost to GM Lalit Rohit (2506) who also scored 7/9. Lalit won Bronze.
