Four players - Maitreyi Mondal, Diya Chowdhury, Anushka Gupta and Sneha Halder scored 6/7. They were placed third to sixth according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was ₹80500. The top three prizes were ₹20000 + trophy, ₹15000 and ₹10000 each respectively. This was second time Bristy won this event. Previously, she won it in 2022, the inaugural edition. This is also her fourth overall tournament triumph of the year. She is the reigning West Bengal State Women champion and also won Gold at Asian Junior Girls 2024 Blitz. Photos: Shahid Ahmed

More than double the number of participants from the previous edition

The first edition of this event witnessed 54 players, second edition had 64, however, this year the total participation increased more than double to 134. A total of 138 players registered for the event which is definitely a good news. The defending champion, WIM Arpita Mukherjee did not participate which means a new champion was guaranteed to be crowned. The champion turned out to be the reigning West Bengal State Women champion and also Asian Junior Girls 2024 Blitz Gold medalist, WFM Bristy Mukherjee, the winner of the same tournament of the inaugural edition in 2022.

Since 2022, one of the perks of winning the tournament is, receiving the prize on the final day of the main event - Tata Steel Chess India 2024 Rapid and Blitz. Apart from receiving the prize from the legend and India's second GM in history - GM Dibyendu Barua, one gets to share the stage with another legend - Vishy Anand on the final day. Receiving the prize in front of star-studded world-class players is an added bonus apart from the usual cash and trophy prize. No wonder, every year, the festival events reach its capacity in no time once it is announced. Bristy received her prize from the maestro, Anand back in 2022. This time, She got the great opportunity to receive the prize from World no.1 and greatest of all time, Magnus Carlsen.
