Bharat Kumar Reddy Poluri wins 3rd Marvel Rating Open 2024

Bharat Kumar Reddy Poluri and Srujan Keerthan Solleti scored an unbeaten 8/9 each at 3rd Marvel Rating Open 2024. Bharat won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Srujan secured second place. Four players - FM Md. Imran, Kushal O, FM J Ramakrishna and Majhi Fakir scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed third to sixth respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹600000. The top three prizes were ₹75000, ₹50000 and ₹40000 along with a trophy each. The five-day rating tournament was organized by B Rajashekar at Johnson Grammar School in Hyderabad, Telangana from 1st to 5th May 2024. Top two score an unbeaten 8/9

Bharat Kumar Reddy Poluri was the sole leader 7.5/8 heading into the final round. Four players - Arvind Iyer, FM Md. Imran, Srujan Keerthan Solletti and Sharanya Gade were in pursuit at 7/8 each. Bharat drew with Imran to become the champion, Imran third. Srujan defeated Sharanya to finish second. Sharanya became the sole female player to make a top ten finish. She scored 7/9 to finish eighth, ahead of the top seed - GM Saptarshi RoyChowdhury.

A total of 362 players including a GM took part from all over the country, one from Kenya and USA each in this five-day nine round Rating Open tournament. It was organized by B Rajashekar at Johnson Grammar School in Hyderabad, Telangana from 1st to 5th May 2024. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
