Praggnanandhaa wins Gold at Asian Continental 2022, Silver for Harsha and Adhiban Bronze

GM R Praggnanandhaa drew with GM B Adhiban in the final round. The next two boards also had no decisive results. Thus, Praggnanandhaa became Asian Continental 2022 Open champion with an unbeaten 7/9. Six players scored 6.5/9. GM Harsha Bharathakoti and GM B Adhiban were placed second and third according to tie-breaks. They won Silver and Bronze medal. GM S L Narayanan was adjudged fourth. They all qualified to the FIDE World Cup 2023. The total prize fund of the tournament was US$ 60000, $31400 in the Open. The Asian Continental Chess Championship 2022 witnessed some fantastic games. For the first time in six years, India won a Gold at this event. The previous Gold medalist was GM Sethuraman S P in 2016. GM R Praggnanandhaa, GM Harsha Bharathakoti, GM B Adhiban and GM S L Narayanan secured the top four places and qualified to the FIDE World Cup 2023. Adhiban - Praggnanandhaa: 0.5-0.5

GM B Adhiban (2603) mentioned in a post-match interview that he got a position where he could push for a win for as long as he waned against GM R Praggnanandhaa (2687).

It was evident from Adhiban's play that he really wanted to win the Gold. He made a variety of attempts to gain a substantial advantage, however the position did not offer him as much as he would have liked and the game ended in a draw.

A total of 91 players including 31 GMs and 39 IMs in the Open, 49 players including 7 IMs, 14 WGMs and 17 WIMs in the Women, took part from 13 countries across the world including India. The nine-round Swiss League tournament was held from 26th October to 3rd November 2022 at The Leela Ambience Convention Hotel, Delhi. It was organized by Delhi Chess Association. The time control of the tournament was 90 Minutes for 40 moves + 30 Minutes with increment of 30 second from move 1.
