National Junior 2023 R8: Arjun Adireddy emerges sole leader

CM Arjun Adireddy (TEL) defeated his coleader IM Manish Anto Cristiano F (TN) to gain sole lead 7.5/8 at 52nd National Junior 2023 Open. A series of inaccuracies by Manish allowed Arjun to gain the upper hand and an exchange. He converted his advantage into a full point comfortably. Alekhya Mukhopadhyay (WB) bounced back from his loss. His daredevil play against Mandar Pradip Lad (Goa) fetched him a victory. Alekhya and Manas Gaikwad (MAH) are currently trailing the leader by a half point at 7/8 each. In the Girls section, Ishvi Aggarwal (HAR) stopped Sneha Halder's (WB) winning streak. Three consecutive incorrect rook moves by IM Manish Anto Cristiano F (TN, 2372) turned things in CM Arjun Adireddy's (TEL, 2057) favor. 16...Rfc8? 17.Qa5 Rc3 18.Bxf5 Rxe3 19.Be4 Rxe4 20.Rd8+ Rxd8 21.Qxd8+ Bf8 22.fxe4 and White went on to win the game comfortably.

Alekhya - Mandar

Position after 29.Kd4

Alekhya Mukhopadhyay (WB, 2149) won a wild game against Mandar Pradip Lad (Goa, 1959). Yes, after bishop, White's next most advanced pieces are queen and king. Eventually, the advanced king played a key role in White earning a victory.

Ishvi Aggarwal (HAR, 1748) got a better position out of the opening and she outplayed her opponent Sneha Halder (WB, 1835). 17...Qb7 18.b5 would have given an immediate control. The game continued 18.Rfb1 b5 and White eventually won the game.
