Prasannaa S wins 28th Abu Dhabi Open 2022, Rohit S second and Arnav Maheshwari third

Prasannaa S scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 28th Abu Dhabi Open 2022. The top seed of the tournament conceded his lone draw in the fourth round. GM Arjun Kalyan's brother, 14-year-old Rohit S scored 8/9 to finish second. He gained a massive 109.2 Elo rating points. Four players scored 7.5/9 each. Another 14-year-old, Arnav Maheswari secured the third place based on tie-breaks. The champion won against both runner-ups. India claims the podium in Open

The Open event of the 28th Abu Dhabi Chess Festival was completely dominated by the Indian players. Top three positions were claimed by Prasannaa S, Rohit S and Arnav Maheshwari respectively. In the Juniors, Aditya Varun Gampa was the lone Indian to claim a place in the podium, second. Rohit S secured fifth place in the Juniors. The total prize fund for the Juniors event was US$ 14000.

A total of 282 players took part in the Open and 216 players in the Juniors event from 35 countries across the world including India. The tournament was organized by Abu Dhabi Chess Club & Mind Games from 17th to 25th August (Juniors - 19th to 24th August) 2022 at Abu Dhabi, UAE. The nine-round Swiss league tournament had a time control of 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1 in the Open event, 70 minutes for Juniors.
