Bardiya Daneshvar wins Gold at Asian Individual 2025, Nihal Sarin Silver

GM Nihal Sarin defeated GM Bardiya Daneshvar (IRI) convincingly in the final round of Asian Individual 2025 Men. Bardiya still became champion due to better tie-break score. Nihal secured a Silver medal and became the only player to beat the eventual champion. The defending champion, GM Shamsiddin Vokhidov (UZB) scored 6.5/9 to win a Bronze medal. In the Women's event, IM Vantika Agrawal defeated WCM Bat-Erdene Mungunzul (MGL) to shatter her Gold medal and WGM title chances. IM Yuxin Song (CHN) won against IM Gulrukhbegim Tokhirjonova (UZB) to clinch the Gold. Bat-Erdene got Silver. IM Batkhuyag Munguntuul (MGL) lost to WGM Xeniya Balabayeva (KAZ) and the latter won Bronze. Vantika finished fourth. WGM Srija Seshadri drew against GM Valentina Gunina to claim fifth place after a 149-move long grueling battle. Seven Indian men have qualified to the upcoming FIDE World Cup 2025. Anna Muzychuk wins Grosslobming GP

GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR) drew with GM R Vaishali to win FIDE Grosslobming GP in Austria. GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (UKR) missed a win against GM Jiner Zhu (CHN) in the endgame and the game ended in a draw. Thus, Jiner finished second and won the FIDE Women's GP 2024-25 with 352.5 points. GM Aleksandra Goryachkina secured second place scoring 308.34 point. Anna missed a spot in the Women's Candidates by a whisker 1.67 points as she scored 306.67. There are still many paths left for her as well as others to qualify. GM Zhongyi Tan (CHN) scored 5.5/9 to finish third overall. Total prize fund was €80000. Superbet Classic R8: Praggnanandhaa beats So, emerges sole leader

R Praggnanandhaa defeated Wesley So (USA) in Round 8 of Grand Chess Tour Superbet Chess Classic 2025. The Tata Steel 2025 winner, opted for the Benko Gambit. He managed to seize his opportunity when So went wrong in the major piece endgame. Praggnanandhaa is now the sole leader with a score 5/8. The only other win of the round was scored by the World Champion, D Gukesh. He scored his first win of the event against Levon Aronian (USA). Gukesh played boldly and moved his king to the center of the board and it paid off. Praggnanandhaa will face Aronian in the final round. Mitrabha Guha wins a double at O2C Doeberl Cup 2025

GM Mitrabha Guha won a double at O2C Doeberl Cup 2025. This is his second consecutive double triumph in Australia after winning a double in Melbourne, a week ago. The reigning National Blitz champion scored 7.5/9 in Premier (>2000) and 8.5/9 to become the champion in Classical and Blitz Rating tournaments respectively. GM Sayantan Das scored sole 7/9 to secure a second place finish. He also remained undefeated The total prize fund in the Premier was AU $16050. The top three prizes were $5000, $3000 and $1500 along with a trophy each respectively. For Blitz, the total prize fund was AU $1790. The top three prizes were $500, $250 and $150. This was Mitrabha's eighth and ninth overall, seventh and eighth rating tournament triumph of the year.

GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR) drew with IM Lela Javakhishvili (GEO) in the penultimate round of FIDE Grosslobming GP in Austria. GM Jiner Zhu (CHN) also drew her game against IM Olga Badelka (AUT). IM Nurgyul Salimova (BUL) had the most exciting game of the round. She missed a great opportunity against GM Nana Dzagnidze (GEO) and lost the game. GM R Vaishali drew with GM Zhongyi Tan (CHN). Srija can still finish second and earn her place in the upcoming FIDE Women's World Cup. IM Vantika Agrawal salvaged a draw in a tough opposite color bishop endgame against GM Valentina Gunina. In the Men's event, GM Bardiya Daneshvar (IRI) defeated GM Abhimanyu Puranik to be on the verge of winning Gold. Top seed, GM Nihal Sarin defeated former Asian champion, GM Sethuraman S P. FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championships 2025 will have an increased prize fund of 1 Million Euro

FIDE World Rapid and Blitz championship 2025 will take place from 26th to 31st December in Doha, Qatar. All details have been published in this announcement. The total prize fund has been increased to 1 Million Euros, €700000 in Open and €300000 in Women for Rapid and Blitz. GM Volodar Murzin, GM Magnus Carlsen (NOR), GM Ian Nepomniachtchi, GM Koneru Humpy and GM Wenjun Ju (CHN) are the defending champions. They would definitely like to defend their titles. WCM Aaradhya Das scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win AICF Smart Girls Rating 2025 Tripura. She finished a half point ahead of the rest. Ankita Sarkar scored 8/9 to secure second place. She also remained undefeated. Sumedha Roy scored sole 7/9 to finish third. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹25000. The top three prizes were ₹5000, ₹3500 and ₹2000 each respectively. Smart Girls rating tournament is just like Chess for Everyone Rating tournament but only for female players, where the entry fee is low. WGM Srija Seshadri defeated IM Anastasia Bodnaruk in Round 6 to emerge sole leader at Asian Individual Women 2025. Srija made a thematic bishop sacrifice on e6 to get three pawns and a vulnerable king. However, the World Rapid Women 2023 champion, IM Anastasia Bodnaruk got back in the game and kept fighting until she blundered her rook in the final moments. Srija is at 5.5/6. She is closely followed by WCM Bat-Erdene Mungunzul (MGL), IM Vantika Agrawal and WGM Nandhidhaa P V at 5/6 each.
