Top seed, GM Nihal Sarin made a winning start at 25th Dubai Open 2025 Category A (>2300). Nihal defeated one of the latest IMs of India - Akshay Borgaonkar. IM Jubin Jimmy and IM Neelash Saha held second and third seeded - GM Shant Sargsyan (ARM) and GM Aleksandar Indjic (SRB) respectively to a draw each. Neelash probably had some chances in the endgame but it was not easy for a human to convert into a full point. FM Sahib Singh played a solid draw against GM Momchil Petkov (BUL). GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR) defeated GM Koneru Humpy to emerge early sole leader at 2nd Norway Chess Women 2025. Humpy made a couple of big mistakes in the major piece endgame. Her first mistake could have ended the game much earlier. However, Anna missed it and the endgame got prolonged. GM R Vaishali drew her Classical game agianst GM Tingjie Lei (CHN). She was losing in Armageddon. However, Tingjie repeated moves as a draw with black pieces in Armageddon equals a win. The reigning Women's World Champion, GM Wenjun Ju (CHN) won her first Armageddon of the event. It was against IM Sara Khadem (ESP). Round 3 starts today from 5 p.m. local time, 8:30 p.m. IST. Norway Chess R2: Arjun Erigaisi wins a back and forth battle against the World Champion

Arjun Erigaisi defeated D Gukesh in the second round of 13th Norway Chess 2025. The World Champion made multiple mistakes and he also had almost the equal number of chances to get back in the game. He almost managed to escape with a draw in the knight vs bishop endgame until he blundered and could not recover his opponent's doubled passed pawns. Fabiano Caruana (USA) scored the only other Classical win of the round over Wei Yi (CHN). Hikaru Nakamura (USA) drew the Classical against Magnus Carlsen (NOR). Then won a rollercoaster Armageddon which could have gone either player's way. Both Arjun and Nakamura are at 4.5/6 each, followed by Carlsen 4/6. Haridev clear first at 1st Battle Field Rating Open 2025

Haridev S scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 1st Battle Field Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Five players - Vigneshwaran S, Tarun V, Yashwant B, Shashveen A K and Sathish Chandra G scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second to sixth place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹400001. The top three prizes were ₹50001, ₹40000 and ₹25000 along with a trophy each. The five-day nine round Rating Open tournament was organized by Battle Field Chess Academy at Kailash Mansarovar School in Salem, Tamil Nadu from 1st to 5th May 2025. Koneru Humpy defeated R Vaishali in the first round of 2nd Norway Chess Women 2025. The queen and bishop vs queen and knight endgame would have ended in a draw if there were an increment from move no.1. However, Vaishali blundered into a checkmate combination in time trouble and lost the game. GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR) had a small advantage in the Classical game against IM Sara Khadem (ESP). It ended in a draw. The in-form GM won Armageddon against the IM. The All-Chinese clash between Tingjie Lei and Wenjun Ju went to Armageddon where the former prolonged her win against the five-time Women's World Champion. Arjun Erigaisi drew the Classical game against Wei Yi (CHN). However, he won Armageddon to win the match in Round 1 of 13th Norway Chess 2025. Fabiano Caruana (USA) blundered in time trouble in a bishop and knight vs double knight endgame. Hikaru Nakamura (USA) had no trouble capitalizing on his opportunity. The highly anticipated clash between Magnus Carlsen (NOR) and D Gukesh was an exciting battle. Gukesh played bravely but only in the time trouble he went wrong in a knight down queen and rook endgame. An incorrect check turned the table completely in favor of the World no.1. Viresh Sharnarthi scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st SVIS Rapid Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Top seed - IM Neelash Saha and Atharva Madkar scored 8/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. Viresh defeated both runners-up, Neelash and Atharva in Round 6 and 5 respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹70000, ₹50000 and ₹30000 along with a trophy each. The two-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by and at Sadhu Vaswani International School, Moshi   in Pune, Maharashtra on 1st and 2nd May 2025. Anish Giri convincingly clinches 8th Sharjah Masters

GM Anish Giri (NED) defeated GM Aditya Mittal to win 8th Sharjah Masters 2025 convincingly. In a relatively balanced rook endgame, Anish pushed for a win as he had an extra passed pawn. It turned out in his favor as his opponent eventually faltered. GM Aleksandar Indjic (SRB) defeated the newly crowned Asian Individual 2025 champion, GM Bardiya Daneshvar (IRI) to secure second place. GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) drew with GM M Amin Tabatabaei (IRI) to finish third. The total prize fund of the tournament is more than $73000, Masters A had $58600. The 13th edition of Norway Chess starts today, Monday 26th May 2025. It will go on till Friday 6th June. For the second year in-a-row, there will be a Women's tournament with an equal number of players, rounds, same format at the same playing hall. The six-player double round-robin, world's strongest tournament will be played in both Open and Women's event. Each draw will be resolved by Armaggedon. Both reigning World Champions - D Gukesh and Wenjun Ju (CHN) will be seen in action along with World no.1 - Magnus Carlsen. The remaining players are: Hikaru Nakamura, Arjun Erigaisi, Fabiano Caruana and Wei Yi in the Open. Tingjie Lei, Koneru Humpy, Anna Muzychuk, R Vaishali and Sara Khadem. GM Anish Giri (NED) drew with GM Velimir Ivic (SRB) in just four moves in the penultimate round of 8th Sharjah Masters 2025. It allowed GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) to catch up with him 6/8. The World Rapid 2021 was determined to play for a win. It became evident when he sacrificed his knight for a couple of pawns in a double rook and double knight endgame. GM Aditya Mittal outplayed GM Alan Pichot (ESP) after the latter gave control of the center. Anish will face Aditya in the final round and GM M Amin Tabatabaei (IRI) will be up against Abdusattorov. GM Mitrabha Guha won a double at Sydney Open 2025. This is his third consecutive double triumph in Australia after winning a double in Melbourne and at Canberra in O2C Doeberl Cup within a span of few days. The reigning National Blitz champion scored 7.5/9 in Championships section (>2000) and 11/11 in Blitz to become the champion in Classical and Blitz Rating tournaments respectively. IM Ronald Dableo (PHI) scored sole 7/9 to secure a second place finish. GM Sayantan Das scored 6.5/9 to finish third. The total prize fund in the Championships was AU $8750. The top three prizes were $3000, $2000 and $875 each. WFM Supreetha Potluri scored 7.5/9 to win the Challengers section. Total prize fund in Challengers was AU $4550. GM Anish Giri (NED) drew with GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) comfortably to emerge sole leader at 8th Sharjah Masters 2025. Giri is now at 5.5/7. Five players - GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB), GM Shant Sargsyan (ARM), GM Aleksandar Indjic (SRB), GM Velimir Ivic (SRB) and GM Salem Saleh (UAE) are trailing him by a half point at 5/7 each.They are followed by 14 players at 4.5/7 each including three Indians - GM Visakh N R, GM Aditya Mittal and GM Pranav Anand. IM Mayank Chakraborty 6/7 and Shubham Shukla 7/7 have maintain their sole lead in Group B and C respectively as Shubham scored his seventh win in-a-row.
