Dhananjay S wins 1st Maharathi Rating Open 2025

FM Dhananjay S and Vidit Sethi scored 8/9 each at 1st Maharathi Rating Open 2025. Dhananjay won the tournament on tie-breaks, Vidit secured second place. Shreyas Raj, CM Nimay Agrawal, Ekaaksha Paratp Singh Negi and Ojas Joshi scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed third to sixth respectively. The total prize fund was ₹1311000. The top three prizes were ₹111000, ₹71000 and ₹41000 along with a trophy each. The five-day nine round  Rating Open tournament was organized by Maharathi Chess Academy at Bal Bhavan Public School in New Delhi from 27th September to 1st October 2025. Norway Chess launches new World Championship - Approved by FIDE

A move that no one saw coming, FIDE has approved a new World Championship format - The Total Chess World Championship Tour. It will be organized by Norway Chess. The tour will consist of Fast Classical, Rapid and Blitz. Fast Classical time control will be 45 minutes + 30 seconds increment. The time control is similar to football matches and not new to the chess universe. Various tournaments in India and around the world have used similar time controls. The tour will have four events each year. The total annual prize pool will be a minimum $2.7 Million, $750000 for the first three events, $450000 for the Finals and performance bonus. The tour will be aiming to look for the 'Total chess player'. A pilot tournament is planned for Fall 2026 with full championship season to take place in 2027. Photo: Norway Chess

FM Prasannaa S scored an unbeaten 7.5/8 to win 10th Sri M S Venkataraman Memorial Rating Open 2025. Prasannaa finished a half point ahead of the rest. Five players - IM Praveen Kumar C, Ajjjesh J R, IM Avinash Ramesh, FM M Vinoth Kumar and Barath L scored 7/8 each. They were placed second to sixth respectively according to tie-breaks. Prasannaa defeated the eventual runner-up, Praveen in the penultimate round. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹500000. The top three prizes were ₹60000 + trophy, ₹50000 and ₹40000 each. The four-day eight-round Rating Open tournament was organized by Mount Chess Academy at New Prince Shri Bhavani College of Engineering and Technology in Chennai, Tamil Nadu from 27th to 30th September 2025. Suyog Wagh sensational at 3rd Pinnacle Rapid Rating Open 2025

IM Suyog Wagh scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 3rd Pinnacle Rapid Rating Open 2025. He finished a full point ahead of the field. Six players - IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni, Ram Vishal Parab, IM Sagar Shah, Jeet Shah, FM Kaivalya Sandip Nagare and FM Om Manish Kadam scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second to seventh place respectively according to tie-breaks. Suyog defeated the eventual runner-up Vikramaditya in the seventh round. The total prize fund was ₹400000. The top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹35000 and ₹20000 along with a huge trophy each. The one-day Rapid rating tournament was organized by Pinnacle Chess Events at Korum Mall in Thane, Maharashtra on 28th September 2025. This is Suyog's second rating tournament triumph of the year. IM Senthil Maran K and GM Laxman R R scored an unbeaten 11.5/13 each at 25th RCC Blitz Rating Open 2025. Senthil won the tournament on tie-breaks, Laxman secured second place. Their seventh round battle against each other ended in a draw. IM Nitish Belurkar and Sidharth Mohan scored 11/13 each. They were placed third and fourth respectively. The total cash prize fund of the tournament was ₹100000. The top three prizes were ₹15000, ₹10000 and ₹7000 along with a trophy each. The one-day 13-round Rating Open tournament was organized by Rao's Chess Corner at Sharada Vidyalaya Kodialbail in Mangaluru, Karnataka on 28th September 2025. GM Karthikeyan Murali and GM Pranesh M scored an unbeaten 8/10 and 8/11 to ensure his team ŠK Jelica Pep - Goračići win the Serbian First League 2025 Open. The team scored an unbeaten 31/33 to become the champion. They finished a whopping six points ahead of the rest. The defending champion, ZMAJ - Belgrade scored 25/33 to secure second place. GM Aditya Mittal and GM Bharath Subramaniyam H contributed a crucial 7/11 and 7/10 each respectively. Bharath remained undefeated. Radnik - Surdulica scored 21/33 to finish third. In the Women, Crvena Zvezda - Beograd and Jugovic - Kać scored an identical 26/33 each. They secured first and second place according to tie-breaks. The top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹35000 and ₹25000 along with a trophy each. Dinesh and Imran were placed second and third respectively. Only Balkishan remained undefeated among them. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹500001. The top three prizes were ₹60001, ₹35000 and ₹30000 along with a trophy each. Garry Kasparov wins Clutch Chess Legends 2025 by 13-11

Garry Kasparov won Clutch Chess Legends 2025 by 13-11. The final day of the match started with a draw. Kasparov won the second Rapid game after Vishy Anand made an incorrect rook trade offer in the endgame. 'The Lightning Kid' bounced back with two wins in the Blitz game to finish the event on a winning note and reduce the gap. Kasparov won US$ 70000 + bonus, Anand $50000 + $13000 bonus. Starting position of the final day was #294. The loss in the final Rapid game of the event, abandoned Anand's chances of winning the match.
