Belgrade GP R5: Rapport beats Vidit

Vidit Gujrathi lost to Richard Rapport from a promising position in Round 5 of FIDE Belgrade GP. Vidit must beat Fedoseev and Shirov must win against Rapport in the sixth round, only then Vidit will play tie-breaks against Rapport for a spot in the Semifinals. Harikrishna missed a good opportunity against Giri. Thus he got eliminated. Both Giri and Rapport need a draw to top their respective Pool and advance to the Semifinals. MPL National Sub-Junior 2022 R4-5: Vakcheri Mohitha emerges sole leader 5.0/5

Vakcheri Mohitha (AP) gained sole lead in MPL 37th National Sub-Junior Girls Chess Championship 2022. She defeated Tejaswini G (TN) in a thrilling encounter to register her fifth consecutive victory. Shubhi Gupta (UP) and Tanisha Boramanikar (MAH) are trailing the leader by a half point at 4.5/5 each. In the Open event, Tamil Nadu boys IM Pranav Venkatesh and IM Pranesh M are in the lead with 100% score 5.0/5. They are followed by FM Harshad S (TN) and 10-year-old Ethan Vaz (Goa) at 4.5/5 each. December 2021 YouTube funds will give wings to 12-year-old Daakshin's dream of becoming an IM this year

Daakshin Arun is one of India's upcoming youngsters. The 12-year-old has a FIDE rating of 2173 and is ranked the highest in the country for kids born in 2009. Daakshin's father, Arun, had been working as a professor in an engineering college. In 2017 he gave up his job so that he could travel with Daakshin to tournaments all across India and the world. The boy has been progressing rapidly, but this has put a lot of financial pressure on the family. The boy and his family have an aim of becoming an IM in the year 2022 and in order to facilitate this dream, the ChessBase India YouTube memberships for the month of December 2021 of Rs.72,076 will be given to Daakshin.

11 players in MPL 46th National Sub-Junior Open and seven in 37th National Sub-Junior Girls are at 3.0/3. Both IMs from Tamil Nadu, Pranav Venkatesh and IM Pranesh M started with three wins. However, Jai Sankar Subramanian (TN) had a good opportunity to draw with Pranav in the second round. In the Girls event, former National Under-11 Girls champion, Anupam Sreekumar (KER) was held to a draw by Debapriya Manna (WB) in Round 2. Top seed Sarayu Velpula (TEL) was on the brink of defeat several times against Sachi Jain (DEL). She somehow managed to escape with a draw. Both Vidit Gujrathi and Pentala Harikrishna drew their games against Alexei Shirov and Nikita Vitiugov respectively. Vidit still shares the lead with Richard Rapport at 2.5/4 in Pool C. Anish Giri drew with Tabatabaei to maintain his full point lead 3.0/4 in Pool B. Harikrishna's score is now 1.5/4. Sam Shankland and Dmitry Andreikin shares the top spot in Pool A at 2.5/4 each. MPL 46th National Sub-Junior Open and 37th National Sub-Junior Girls started yesterday at New Delhi. There were no big upsets in the first round of the Open tournament. Keshav Padmanabhan (TN) was the only one to hold Md. Imran (AP) to a draw among the top ten seeds. Among the girls, Shraddhaa Bajaj (MAH) and Jahnvi Ashok (KER) beat Bhillva Nilaya K E K (AP) and Sneha Halder (WB) respectively. Priyanka Nutakki becomes the 23rd Woman Grandmaster of India

19-year-old Priyanka Nutakki secured her final WGM-norm at MPL 47th National Women Chess Championship. She scored 7.0/9, performed at 2348 to become India's latest Woman Grandmaster on 2nd March 2022. She was also placed third in the tournament. The first WGM-norm was scored in January 2019. The soft-spoken girl from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, won her biggest online tournament, SPF Girls' Invitational in June 2020. It was evident that she was working hard during the Covid-19 pandemic. She earned her second WGM and maiden IM-norm in her third over-the-board tournament of the year 2021. 18-year-old Arjun Erigaisi conquers MPL 58th National Senior Chess Championship 2022

18-year-old Arjun Erigaisi expectedly won MPL 58th National Senior Chess Championship 2022. He edged past D Gukesh and Iniyan P on tie-breaks. All three of them scored 8.5/11. They received ₹600,000, ₹500,000 and ₹400,000 along with a trophy each respectively. The remaining top ten scored 8.0/10 each. Koustav Chatterjee and Pranav Venkatesh are the only two IMs to make it in the top 10. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹30,00,000. Only four players younger than Arjun have won the National Senior title in Indian chess history. Belgrade GP R3: Harikrishna holds Anish Giri to a draw

Vidit Gujrathi was denied a hat-trick by Hungary no.1 Richard Rapport. Now both Rapport and Vidit share the lead in Pool C at 2.0/3 each. Anish Giri made an interesting queen sacrifice against Harikrishna. However, it lacked enough venom to score a hat-trick. The India no.3 drew the game comfortably against the Dutch no.1. Giri still leads Pool B by a full point 2.5/3 and has good chances of advancing to the Quarterfinals. 16-year-old Divya Deshmukh clinches MPL 47th National Women Chess Championship 2022

WGM Divya Deshmukh (MAH) drew her final round game against IM Soumya Swaminathan (PSPB) to clinch MPL 47th National Women Chess Championship 2022. She finished a full point ahead of the competition. WIM Sakshi Chitlange (MAH), WIM Priyanka Nutakki (AP) and WGM Srija Seshadri (TN) scored 7.0/9 each. They were placed second to fourth according to tie-breaks. Divya finished third in the 2019 edition. She became the fifth-youngest woman to win National Women 2022, tying the record with Humpy at the age of 16 years. Vidit Gujrathi scored his second consecutive victory at FIDE Belgrade Grand Prix 2022. Vladimir Fedoseev's tactical error cost him an exchange. Later, Vidit found a beautiful move to secure his win. He is now a full point ahead of the field in Pool B. Harikrishna was unable to seize his advantage in a completely winning position against Tabatabaei. Anish Giri is playing some of his best chess as he also scored his second win with another sacrifice. Vidit will face Richard Rapport in Round 3. Arjun Erigaisi (TEL) drew with Iniyan P (TN) in the penultimate round of MPL 58th National Senior Chess Championship 2022. Thus, it allowed D Gukesh (TN) to catch up as he beat Abhijeet Gupta (PSPB) to regain the lead 8.0/10. Seven players are at 7.5/10 - GM Iniyan P, GM Aravindh, GM Aryan, GM Sethuraman S P, GM Visakh, GM Mitrabha Guha and IM Pranav. Belgrade GP R1: Vidit scores a fiery win against Shirov

Vidit Gujrathi started with a very nice victory against Alexei Shirov at FIDE Belgrade GP 2022. Harikrishna lost to Nikita Vitiugov after making an inaccuracy early in the middlegame. Anish Giri and Dmitry Andreikin defeated Amin Tabatabaei and Alexander Grischuk respectively. Andreikin also mentioned that it could be their last tournament. It is in reference to the fact that IOC recommended banning Russian and Belarussian players and officials to be banned from all sports a couple of days ago.
