FIDE World Cup 2025 R5 TB: Jose Martinez knocks out Pentala Harikrishna, continues his dream run

Jose Eduardo Martinez Alcantara (MEX) eliminated Pentala Harikrishna to secure his place in the Quarterfinals of FIDE World Cup 2025. The first two 15'+10" Rapid tie-break games ended in draws. Then Jose won the first 10'+10" Rapid tie-break game and drew the next to set up a clash against Javokhir Sindarov in Round 6. Sam Shankland (USA), Andrey Esipenko and Alexander Donchenko (GER) were the other victors of the day. They knocked out Daniil Dubov, Aleksey Grebnev and Liem Quang Le (VIE). Nubairshah Shaikh wins Satish Anna Rapid Rating Open 2025

IM Mohammad Nubairshah Shaikh, IM Ameya Audi, IM Ravi Teja S, IM Srijit Paul, IM Suyog Wagh, IM Nitish Belurkar and Shriraj Bhosale scored 8/9 each at Satish Anna Rapid Rating Open 2025. Nubairshah won the tournament on tie-breaks. The remaining six were placed second to seventh respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was ₹400000. The top three prizes were ₹100000, ₹50000 and ₹25000 along with a trophy each. The two-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Satish Anna Fans Club at Mahaveer Bhavan in Belagavi, Karnataka on 25th and 26th October 2025. This is Nubairshah's fifth tournament triumph of the year.

FIDE World Cup 2025 R5.2: Arjun Erigaisi elegantly eliminates Levon Aronian, Harikrishna to play tie-breaks

Arjun Erigaisi defeated his second consecutive legend, Levon Aronian, to advance to the Quarterfinals of FIDE World Cup 2025. This is the second consecutive edition where Arjun has reached the Quarterfinal stage. His sixth round opponent will be Wei Yi (CHN). Both Arjun and Wei are undefeated so far. Arjun became the first player to secure his place the Quarterfinals in this edition. Pentala Harikrishna drew his second Classical game against Jose Eduardo Martinez Alcantara (MEX). They will have to play tie-breaks tomorrow. Nodirbek Yakubboev and Javokhir Sindarov are the two Uzbekistan players to have secured their place in the final eight. Commonwealth 2025 R7: Daniel Howard Fernandez gains sole lead, Neelash Saha in pursuit

GM Daniel Howard Fernandez (ENG) defeated GM Lalit Rohit to emerge sole leader at Commonwealth Chess Championship 2025 Open. Daniel is now at 6.5/7. IM Neelash Saha won against IM James Morris (AUS) to move to 6/7. He is the sole pursuer trailing the leader by a half point. James, GM Deep Sengupta, FM Arjun Adireddy and GM Deepan Chakkravarthy are at 5.5/7 each. Arjun got the better of GM Sayantan Das when the latter went wrong in the endgame. Deepan defeated India's latest GM Raahul V S. IM Nisha Mohota and WGM Nandhidhaa P V are at 5/7 each. Arjun Erigaisi and Pentala Harikrishna made solid draws in the first game of the fifth round of FIDE World Cup 2025. Arjun as always made an attempt to gain upper hand against Levon Aronian (USA). However, neither player made any significant mistake in the game. Harikrishna drew against the Mexico no.1. The better part of the game followed a few other games which had the same outcome. Former World Rapid champion, Daniil Dubov had a great chance in the endgame against Sam Shankland (USA). However, Dubov did not play the precise continuation and allowed his opponent to escape with a draw. Javokhir Sindarov (UZB) scored the sole win of the day against Frederik Svane (GER). FIDE World Cup 2025 R4 TB: Arjun Erigaisi and Pentala Harikrishna advance to Round of 16

Arjun Erigaisi and Pentala Harikrishna won their respective tie-breaks to advance to the fifth round of FIDE World Cup 2025. Arjun won both 15'+10" Rapid tie-break games against the legend, Peter Leko. On the other hand, Harikrishna saved a tough position in the first one. In the second 15'+10" Rapid game, Harikrishna played fine chess to beat his longtime Novy Bor teammate and Sweden no.1, Nils Grandelius. Two-time Asian Junior champion, Aleksey Grebnev eliminated former World Blitz champion, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. Samuel Sevian (USA) won the third Sudden Death of the event against Lorenzo Lodici (ITA) after trading six consecutive wins, all with white pieces. Round 5 Game 1 starts tomorrow at 3 p.m. IST. Abdimalik Abdisalimov wins Hoogeveen Open 2025, Sandipan Chanda second and Harikrishnan third

GM Abdimalik Abdisalimov (UZB) scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to win Hoogeveen Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. GM Sandipan Chanda scored sole 7/9 to secure second place. GM Harikrishnan A Ra, IM Nico Zwirs (NED) and GM Ortik Nigmatov (GER) scored 6.5/9 each. They secured third, fourth and fifth place according to tie-breaks. Abdimalik drew against both runners-up, Sandipan and Harikrishnan. The top three prizes were €3000 + trophy, €2000 and €1250. IM James Morris (AUS) and GM Daniel Howard Fernandez (ENG) have emerged coleaders 5.5/6 at Commonwealth Chess Championship 2025 Open. James defeated one of the leaders, GM Deep Sengupta in the sixth round. IM Ranindu Dilshan Liyanage (SRI) went down against Daniel. GM Lalit Rohit and IM Neelash Saha are the only two pursuers at 5/6 each. They are closely followed by eight players including India's latest Grandmaster Raahul V S at 4.5/6 each. The total prize fund is RM 95000 (≈ US$ 22900), RM 85000 (≈ US$ 20000) for Classical event and RM 10000 (≈ US$ 2900) for Blitz. Arjun Erigaisi, R Praggnanandhaa and Pentala Harikrishna will have to play tie-breaks tomorrow at FIDE World Cup 2025. Arjun and Praggnanandhaa played well contested draws against Peter Leko (HUN) and Daniil Dubov respectively. Harikrishna blundered a pawn and found himself in a bit of pickle. However, he managed to avert any disaster and escape with a draw against Nils Grandelius (SWE). GM Shyaam Nikhil P clinched the title at RK Foundation Sivakasi CC & SCS 1st FIDE Rated Rapid Chess Tournament 2025. Grandmaster Shyaam, the recent World Railways Gold medalist, displayed his formidable strength and took to an unbeaten 8.5/9. He finished half a point ahead of the rest of the field to secure a well-deserved victory. Two players IM Murali Krishnan B T and FM Maheswaran P finished with eight points each, and were placed second and third respectively based on tie-break scores. The tournament featured a total prize fund of ₹200000, with the top three prizes of ₹26000, ₹22000, and ₹17000 respectively, each accompanied by a trophy. All five Indians drew the first game of the fourth round of FIDE World Cup 2025. R Praggnanandhaa is still struggling to find his footing at his event. After a questionable choice of opening against a creative player like, Daniil Dubov, Praggnanandhaa landed himself in trouble out of the opening. Somehow he managed to escape with a draw when the former World Rapid champion traded queens when he missed a winning tactic. Arjun Erigaisi made the fastest draw of the round in just 20 moves against Peter Leko (HUN) and the game lasting barely an hour.
