13-Year-Old Pratitee Bordoloi Creates History to Become 2026 Asian Junior Girls Champion

WFM Pratitee Bordoloi scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 points to become the 2026 Asian Junior Girls Champion. Pratitee started the tournament as the top seed, and she gained an early lead, which she kept throughout the tournament. In the final round, she drew against Sravyasree Bheemarasetty to clinch the title. Pratitee's FIDE rating has now crossed 2350, and she also directly earns the Woman International Master title. Back-to-Back Achievements

A few months back in June, Pratitee established herself as one of the brightest talents at the FIDE World Youth Chess Championship. Competing in the Girls Under-18 section against players significantly older and more experienced, she produced a remarkable unbeaten performance, scoring 7 wins and 4 draws to win the silver medal - finishing with a score of 9/11 points!

Here in Mumbai, she competed again in a category that's way higher than her age, but this time she was prepared and won the event in style to become Asian Junior (U-20) Champion.

A Story worth telling

What's interesting is that Pratitee won the girls' section, and GM Mayank Chakraborty won the open. Mayank is Pratitee's mentor and is helping her get better at chess! You can see pictures of Pratitee's mother, Dr. Pranti, and Mayank's mother, Dr. Monomita, meeting at the end of the event and sharing their joy and happiness!

Playing Conditions

The tournament is played according to the FIDE Laws of Chess, using electronic clocks.
Standard: 90 minutes for the whole game with a 30-second increment per move from move 1. Forfeit time is 30 minutes.
Rapid: 15 minutes plus a 10-second increment per move from move 1.
Blitz: 3 minutes plus a 2-second increment per move from move 1.
Per FIDE regulations, players from the same federation may be paired against each other in the last round.

Titles and Awards

A minimum of 5 federations per category and 10 participants is required for direct titles in Standard chess (see the FIDE Handbook). Direct titles are awarded for Standard chess per the FIDE Handbook:

Gold medalists are awarded a GM norm and the International Master (IM) title (for women, a WGM norm and the Woman International Master (WIM) title). Players scoring the same number of points as the champion also receive the IM/WIM title.
The silver & bronze medal winners are awarded the IM/WIM norm in addition to the FIDE Master (FM)/Woman FIDE Master (WFM) title.
