IM Rahul Sangma wins Sarguja Cup Classical Rating 2026

IM Rahul Sangma scored an unbeaten 7.5/8 points to win the Sarguja Cup All India Open Fide Rated Chess Tournament 2026. Both Rahul Sangma and Indrajeet Mahindrakar were co-leading after 7 rounds with a perfect 7 points and drew their last game; a better tiebreak score helped Rahul win the event, and Indrajeet secured 2nd place. Vinod Kumar Sharma of Chhattisgarh scored 7 points to secure 3rd place. The tournament was organised by Suseema Welfare Foundation from 10th to 13th April 2026 at the Government. Polytechnic College, Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh. The total prize fund was ₹2,00,000 with top 3 prizes of ₹51,000, ₹27,000, and ₹15,000 along with trophies. Photos: Suseema Welfare Foundation

In 2026, IM Rahul Sangma of RSPB already won 3 Classical Rating tournaments now, before this tournament, Rahul won Chess for Everyone Classical Fide Rating 2026 and Late Shri Vasudeva V. Dempo Memorial Fide Rating 2026. Rahul was unbeaten in both tournaments and remained unbeaten here at the Sarguja Cup too.
