Elevating Assam Chess: IM Neeraj Kumar Mishra Leads 7-Day Camp in Moranhat
A transformative long-term project by SBG Chess Academy aims to bring structured, high-level coaching to promising talent across remote regions of India. Chess is reaching every corner of India, and the remote regions of Assam are no exception. In a major boost to grassroots chess development, International Master Neeraj Kumar Mishra, alongside Assistant Coach Santanu Borpatra Gohain, is currently conducting an intensive seven-day training camp at the SBG Chess Academy in Moranhat, Dibrugarh district. Nurturing Future Champions Beyond Urban Hubs
Running from August 3 to August 9, 2026, the ongoing camp marks the official launch of an ambitious, long-term initiative dedicated to systematically raising the standard of the game throughout the region.

Eight promising young players selected from different parts of Assam have gathered in Moranhat for this inaugural session. Their presence highlights both the rising popularity of chess across the state and the immense potential waiting to be tapped outside major metropolitan centers.
A Help for All
While metropolitan cities often host the majority of high-performance academies, initiatives like this bridge the accessibility gap. By bringing seasoned professionals like IM Neeraj Kumar Mishra directly to players in Dibrugarh, SBG Chess Academy provides structured instruction, tactical clarity, and strategic groundwork tailored for serious competition.

This initial August session lays the groundwork for a broader, sustained curriculum designed to identify, mentor, and elevate young talent over the coming years.

Initiatives of this scale are essential for strengthening India’s overall chess infrastructure. By establishing robust training hubs in distant regions, the academy is helping forge a vibrant chess culture, ensuring that every talented player, regardless of geography, gets the opportunity to excel on the national and international stage.
