Vatsal Singhania wins Marienbad Open 2020 IM Round-Robin

Former Commonwealth Gold medalist and Asian Youth Silver medalist, FM Vatsal Singhania scored 7.0/9, remained undefeated to win Marienbad Open 2020 IM Round-Robin. He performed at 2474, increased 112 Elo rating points to score his maiden IM-norm after missing it out earlier in 5th IIFLW Open 2019-20. Among other Indians, Laxman finished shared first in Open event and he also finished second in the Blitz event. He missed the championship in Blitz by a whisker as he needed a draw in the final round to clinch the championship. Vatsal scores his maiden IM-norm

18-year old Vatsal Singhania scored an unbeaten 7.0/9 to win Marienbad Open 2020 IM Round-Robin. Vatsal performed at 2474, gained 112 Elo rating points and scored his maiden IM-norm after missing it earlier at 5th IIFLW Open 2019-20. He received a championship trophy, 3000 CZK cash and a certificate for his efforts.

Vatsal's unbeaten championship run allowed him to score his maiden IM-norm

Vatsal scored a fine victory over Tamas Tancsa (HUN, 2193) in round 4.

Laxman shared first in Open and second in Blitz

Starting out as the top seed in both Open and Blitz event, Laxman scored an unbeaten 7.0/9 in Open and 9.0/11 in Blitz. Six players finished with a score of 7.0/9, so Laxman secured shared first, third according to tie-breaks in Open. In the Blitz event, Laxman needed a draw in the final round to win the tournament. Unfortunately he lost and had to be content with the second position.

Laxman scored a fine victory against IM Liordis Quesada Vera (CUB, 2386) in round 5.

16-year old Kaushik G Iyer and 12-year old Dhruv Khosla were the massive gainers. They both scored 6.0/9 each, gained 163 and 181 Elo rating points and they were placed 10th and 11th respectively according to tie-breaks. Among other gainers, Vaibhav Kalpaka scored 5.5/9 and gained 104 and Anya Seth Syed scored 4.0/9 to increase her Elo rating by 122 points.

Total 284 players participated from 32 countries across the world including Czech Republic in six different categories starring various GMs, IMs and WGMs among titled players. The tournament was organized by AVE-KONTAKT s.r.o. from 18th - 25th January 2020 at Mariánské Lázně in Czech Republic.
