Magnus Carlsen dominates Tata Steel Chess India Rapid 2024, Praggnanandhaa second

by Shahid Ahmed - 15/11/2024

Magnus Carlsen (NOR) dominated the field when he won Tata Steel Chess India 2024 Rapid with a round to spare. The World no.1 defeated former World Rapid champion, Daniil Dubov to secure his title. Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) got a great opportunity to create the only blemish in Carlsen's score at this event. However, he missed the opportunity and the Norwegian escaped with a draw. R Praggnanandhaa and Wesley So (USA) scored 5.5/9 each. They secured second and third place according to tie-breaks. Praggnanandhaa defeated S L Narayanan and Arjun Erigaisi, drew with So on the final day of Rapid. GM Aleksandra Goryachkina won the Women's event scoring 7.5/9. She also finished two points ahead of the rest.GM Nana Dzagnidze (GEO) secured second place 5.5/9, followed by IM Vantika Agrawal at third 5/9. Blitz Round 1 starts tomorrow at 2 p.m. IST. Aleksandra Goryachkina also wins with a round to spare, Vantika Agrawal third

It's a Magnus Carlsen's world, and we are all living in it. Magnus drew the first two games, then he won the next six games in-a-row, scoring a double hat-trick, before saving a lost position to finish the event with a draw. He enjoyed the game against Arjun Erigaisi the most. Both champions scored an unbeaten 7.5/9, finished two points ahead of the field and won the event with a round to spare. It is definitely rare to see two champions having identical performances.

Round 7: Carlsen - Keymer: 1-0

It has been more than a year since Vincent Keymer (GER, 2642) defeated Magnus Carlsen (NOR, 2832) in a rated game. The 'Endgame god' once again displayed why he earned that moniker.

Which pawn Black should save - a5 or e6? If you thought about saving the a5-pawn over e6, you are mistaken same as Keymer. Black needed to save the e6-pawn here. The simple reason is it prevent the d4-pawn from advancing.
