Raja Rithvik R and Arjun Erigaisi in pursuit

GM Karthikeyan Murali maintains his lead 4.5/5

Pouya - Karthikeyan: 0-1

GM Karthikeyan Murali (2637) faced GM Pouya Idani (IRI, 2603) only once in a Classical rated game over five years ago. It ended in a draw. This time also, the game was heading towards the same result, until Pouya made a mistake in the rook, bishop and knight endgame.

Position after 46...Na3

White had to play 47.f4 exf4 48.e5 to keep things in balance. Instead, 47.Rg7+ Kf8 48.Rg6 Nxb5 dropped the pawn for free and soon White blundered his bishop too.

GM Karthikeyan Murali seized his opportunity in the endgame against GM Pouya Idani (IRI)

Surya - Arjun: 0-1

GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly (2578) has never beaten GM Arjun Erigaisi (2801) in a Classical rated game. This time also it did not change.

Position after 28...Ne4

Black's pieces are well coordinated, the knights are ready to cause havoc. White needs to move his queen carefully. 29.Qd4? turned things in Black's favor Ng5 30.Bg4 Qe8 31.Rf2 f3 32.Kf1 Rf4 33.Qd3 Rfe4 34.Be6+ Kh8 35.Rc1 Nf4 36.Qb3 Nxd5 37.Rxf3 Nxf3 and Black won as there is not much to go on for White.

Pranesh - Vokhidov

Position after 28.Nf5!

GM Pranesh M (2582) found the correct move 28.Nf5! Rg6 29.Rd2 However, he needed to strike immediately 29.Nxe7 Kxe7 30.Rh1. He did the same but a move later and it did not have the same effect. GM Shamsiddin Vokhidov (UZB, 2681) reinforced his bishop at d5 29...Rd8 30.Nxe7 Qxe7 31.f4 White's attack soon fizzled out and the game ended in a draw.

GM Pranesh M needs to convert his chances into a full point

GM Bharath Subramaniyam H - GM S L Narayanan: 0.5-0.5

Raja Rithvik - Pranav

Position after 19.Be3

Where should Black move the queen? He doesn't need to. Moving it only worsens things for Black. Instead, 19...Rfd8 20.Rd5 Rxd5 21.Bxd5 would have kept the game going.

GM Raja Rithvik R defeatd GM Pranav V to move his score 4/5
