R S Chess Academy invites you to Mitra Charitable Trust Rapid Rating Open 2024
R S Chess Academy invites all chess players around the world in the inaugural edition of Mitra Charitable Trust presents Rapid Rating Open 2024. It is scheduled to take place from 4th to 6th May 2024. This tournament offers the highest ever first and second prize for a Rapid Rating Open tournament in India. The total prize fund is ₹615000. The top two prizes are ₹125000 and ₹100000 along with a trophy each. So far 262 players including four IMs have registered. Entry is FREE for GMs, IMs, WGMs, WIMs and players with a FIDE Rapid Rating of above 2400. Last date of registration is 30th April. Highest first and second prize for a Rapid Rating Open in India
The last highest prize fund for Rapid Rating Open tournament in Kolkata, West Bengal took place in May 2017. GM Laxman R R won that event. I was part of the organizing team back then. Nearly seven years later that record is going to be broken. Not only that, another new record will be created - the highest prizes for the top two finishers in a rapid rating open tournament.
Schedule
There will be a total of eleven rounds - four on Saturday 4th May 2024, five on Sunday 5th and two on Monday 6th.
Prizes
The top two prizes are the highest ever in a rapid rating open tournament in India. First prize is ₹125000 + trophy and second prize is ₹100000 + trophy. There are seven prizes in each of the following category - Unrated, Rating 1400-1600, 1601-1800 and Women. There are three prizes in Veteran (Above 60) category. There are also age group prizes in Under-7, 9, 11 and 13 - Top ten in Boys and top five in Girls. The total number of prizes are - 121.
Rules and Regulations
The tournament will have eleven rounds with a time control of 25 minutes + 5 seconds increment from move no.1. Check out the image below for more details and contact information.
Entry fees
Entry is free for GMs, IMs, WGMs, WIMs and above FIDE Rapid Rating 2400. For all other players, the entry fee is ₹2000. Limited entries will be accepted. Check the image below to find out the details. Last date for submission of entry is 30th April 2024.

Venue
The tournament will take place at Rabindranath Tagore Centre, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in Kolkata, West Bengal.
