Kaustuv Kundu conquers 14th Chess for Youth 2024
IM Kaustuv Kundu scored an unbeaten 6.5/7 to win Century Ply presents 14th Chess for Youth 2023 Premier (Under-25) section. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Sagnik Dutta and top seed, GM Koustav Chatterjee scored 6/7 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund for the Premier section was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹50000 + trophy, ₹30000 and ₹20000 each respectively. This is Kaustuv's fourth tournament triumph of the year. The tournament was supposed to conclude on 27th May 2024. However, due to the intense and deathly presence of tropical cyclone Remal, the organizers were forced to postpone the final day of action to 29th May when it concluded. Champions: U-6 Boys - Kazi Adyan Ahmed 6.5/7, U-6 Girls - Saiaastha Singh 6.5/7, U-8 Boys - Kian D Bose 6/7, U-8 Girls - Adeena Mohanty 6/7, U-10 Boys - Oishik Mondal 6.5/7, U-10 Girls - Adwitiya Chakraborty 4.5/7, U-12 Boys - Sayan Barua 6.5/7, U-12 Girls - Aayusree Sarkar 5.5/7, U-14 Boys - Saptarshi Talukdar 6/7, U-14 Girls - Saparya Ghosh 6/7, U-16 Boys - Shourya Paul 6/7, U-16 Girls - Rajanya Datta 6/7 and U-25 - IM Kaustuv Kundu 6.5/7.
10-year-old Sagnik Dutta has been the find of the tournament. After losing the third round, the reigning West Bengal State Under-13 Open champion, won four games in-a-row to score 6/7 and finish second. He finished ahead of a GM, four IMs and two WIMs.
IM Utsab Chatterjee secured fourth place for the second consecutive edition. Only this time, he scored a half point less.
IM Neelash Saha secured sixth position for the second consecutive edition with the exact same score 5.5/7

The total participation in 14th Chess for Youth combining six age categories witnessed the participation of a GM, five IMs and two WIMs in the Premier (Under-25) category from various parts of India. The tournament was held on 24th, 25th and 29th May at Indian Council for Cultural Relations in Kolkata, West Bengal. There were no games from 26th to 28th May due to Cyclone Remal. Prize distribution ceremony was held on 29th May 2024. The time control for all categories was 20 minutes + 5 seconds increment.
