Diwali greetings from the best in Indian chess!
Diwali is a festival of light. It is a celebration of colour, brightness and victory of good over evil. This Diwali we asked some of the top players of India including Vishy Anand, Harikrishna, Adhiban, Sethuraman, coach R.B. Ramesh and others as to how the game of white and black added colour and brightness in their life! Their answers tell us how grateful they all are to the game of chess. Even after years of experience, playing innumerable games and fighting uncountable battles, the game still attracts them and makes them love their very existence!
On the occasion of Diwali, we asked all the top players of India - "How did the game of white and black add colour and brightness in your life?" And here's what they had to say:
GM Viswanathan Anand
"Chess has given me some of the most beautiful moments in my (our) life. I think there is so much that I find I need to learn about chess and that is what’s fascinating. Diwali 2008 was special as I won Bonn and some of the journalists had bought Indian sweets hoping that they could celebrate with me. I don't get to choose the Diwalis I spend at home. But it's a lovely festive time . Family, friends, food and festivity Wish all ChessBase readers a lovely Diwali."
GM Harikrishna Pentala
"Black and white pieces is the reason how I could travel to so many countries, meet so many people from different cultures and in this process brought lot of joy. Happy Diwali."
GM B. Adhiban
"Diwali is one of the most celebrated festivals in India and ever since I started playing chess everyday feels like a Diwali to me!"
GM Ramesh R.B
"Well, I have been either a chess player or a chess coach for most of my life. So, chess occupies the most significant part of me as a person and my mind space. I have learned many good values from this game over the years and it has definitely made me a better person than I was earlier. I got to meet my wife Aarthie through chess, so in more ways than one way chess has added colour and brightness to my life."
GM Sethuraman S.P
"The colour black and white is a very realistic colour by which I was able to add more colours and meaning to my life. The game by which I am able to travel different places, experience different cultures and meet very interesting and new people, share various experiences, and play the game I love the most. The game of chess has elevated my inner-being."
GM Sandipan Chanda
"The fireworks within black and white are getting ever more colourful and brighter everyday"
GM Gopal G.N.
"The game of chess helped me in various aspects. First and foremost, it helped in instilling within me discipline and hard work."
GM M.S. Thejkumar
"The black and white game gave me a separate identity. When people recognise me it brings smile on my face and happiness. I got my love. I got job in my hometown because of this game. The game of black and white added colour in my life. Life became colorful."
