Diasmany Otero Acosta victorious at 40th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit 2025, H Balasubramaniam third
IM Diasmany Otero Acosta (CUB) scored an unbeaten 7/9 to win Sakthi Group 40th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament 2025. He finished a full point ahead of the rest. IM Carlomagno Oblitas (PER) and H Balasubramaniam scored 6/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. Carlomagno also remained undefeated. The seven-day ten-player round-robin tournament was organized by Tamil Nadu State Chess Association at Hotel Alankar Grande in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu from 16th to 22nd December 2025. IM Diasmany Otero Acosta of Cuba, won the 40th Tamil Nadu IM-Norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament and his second title in three weeks. Otero remained undefeated with five wins and four draws in nine games. The prizes were distributed by GM Sundararajan Kidambi, in presence of Dr. M Manickam, President, TNSCA, Senthil Chinnasamy, President, Coimbatore District Chess Association. IA Palaniappan, Chief Arbiter and FA Vinod Kumar, Deputy Chief Arbiter conducted the tournament in an excellent manner.


IM Carlomagno Oblitas (PER) speaks only Spanish, delivered his feedback in a mix of English and Tamil!! In fact, he learnt English from a Teacher in Coimbatore to learn the language in his free time during tournament stay.

Balasubramaniam scored 1.5/4 in the first rounds. But in the second half he scored heavily with 4.5/5 !! and finished a creditable third.



The Chief Guest of the event, GM Sundararajan Kidambi was candid in his talk, with travel abroad for seeking norms, missed chances, expenses, choosing tournaments etc. He was all in praise for the Chairman, Sakthi Group and President, Tamil Nadu State Chess Association and the team for organising set of events in a year.
