Akshay Anand wins Sushma and Dormak Rating Open 2024

Akshay Anand and Dinesh Kumar Jaganathan scored an unbeaten 8/9 each at Sushma and Dormak Rating Open 2024. Akshay won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Dinesh was placed. Five players - Prithvi Sharma, Vedant Garg, Harish Sharma, Uddipan Roy and Pradeep Tiwari scored 7.5/9 each. They secured third to seventh respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹500000. The top three prizes were ₹70000, ₹50000 and ₹30000 along with a trophy each. The tournament was organized by Chandigarh Chess Academy at Dev Samaj College of Education in Chandigarh from 28th June to 2nd July 2024. This was Akshay's first tournament triumph of the year. Akshay clinches the first tournament he plays in 2024

Dinesh Kumar Jaganathan, Bhaskara Ratna Shanmukha Reddy Alluri, Prithvi Sharma, Akshay Anand, Ayaan Garg and Harish Sharma were the six players at 7/8 each. Akshay defeated Bhaskara, Ayaan lost to Dinesh. Prithvi drew with Harish. Akshay became champion, Dinesh second and Prithvi third. This was also the first tournament Akshay played in 2024 and he won it without losing a game. His last rating tournament triumph was over four years ago.

The tournament was inaugurated by Chief Guest - Hari Kallikkat, IAS, Secretary, Sports, Chandigarh Administration. Other dignitaries present were SNA Naveen Bansal, Director, Chandigarh Chess Academy and Tournament Director, FA CM Sharma and Chief Arbiter IA Varun Kumar.

Prizes were distributed by the Chief Guest - Nitin Narang, President, All India Chess Federation and Guest of Honour - IA Dharmender Kumar, Treasurer, All India Chess Federation. Other dignitaries present were SNA Naveen Bansal, Director, Chandigarh Chess Academy and Tournament Director, FA CM Sharma, and SNA Varinder Kumar at the closing ceremony.

A total of 461 players took part from various places across the country and two from Zimbabwe in this five-day nine-round Swiss League Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Chandigarh Chess Academy at Dev Samaj College of Education in Chandigarh from 28th June to 2nd July 2024. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
