Ajjesh amazing at 1st Hunter's Queen Trophy Rapid Rating Open 2025

Ajjesh J R scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Hunter's Queen Trophy Rapid Rating Open 2025. The 16-year-old finished a half point ahead of the competition. Five players - IM Srihari L, Peter Anand A, Madhesh Kumar S, IM Harsh Suresh and IM Hari Madhavan N B scored 8/9 each. They were placed second to sixth according to tie-breaks. Ajjesh drew with the eventual runner-up and Puducherry's first IM - Srihari in the penultimate round. The total prize fund was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹25000 + trophy, ₹20000 and ₹15000 each. The one-day nine-round Swiss league Rapid Rating tournament was organized by Hunters Chess Academy at Manakula Vinayagar Institute of Technology in Puducherry on 30th March 2025. Ajjesh's first rating open tournament triumph

The top seed of the tournament and Puducherry's first IM - Srihari L, Ajjesh J R and World Amateur (Below 2000) 2021 champion - Peter Anand A, were the three leaders 7.5/8, heading into the final round. Ajjesh defeated Adhithya S to become the champion. Peter drew with Srihari to secure third and second place respectively.

A total of 545 players including four IMs took part from all over the country in this one-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Hunter's Queen Academy, Puducherry at Manakula Vinayagar Institute of Technology in Puducherry on 30th March 2025. The time control of the event was 10 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move.
