Soundarya wins Gold, Silver for Kishan and Swapnil at 9th IBCA World Team Championship
Team India finished sixth overall at 9th IBCA World Team Chess Championship for the Blind and Visually Impaired. The team secured their highest ever finish at this event. They managed to bag three individual medals. Soundarya Kumar Pradhan clinched Gold on Board no.2 with a score of 6/7. Kishan Gangolli and Swapnil Shah won a Silver medal each on Board no.3 and 5 with a score of 5/7 and 3/5 each respectively. Two Golds and a Silver, and the highest ever finish for the team at IBCA World Team will definitely motivate them to achieve more success and bring more laurels for the country in their future endeavors. A triumphant performance
The Indian team finished third in the Group stage in the group - Red. As mentioned in the previous report, only the top two teams of each Red and Yellow group advanced to the Semifinals. Thus, India's overall rank at the event became sixth after they drew with Hungary for the 5th-6th place match. Since India scored 8/14 in the Group stage and Hungary made 11/14, the latter won the tie-breaks. Poland won Gold, Serbia Silver and Ukraine earned the Bronze.
