Abhimanyu Mishra wins 5th Menorca Open 2026, Leon Luke Mendonca finishes second

Abhimanyu Mishra scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to win the 5th Menorca Open 2026. Abhimanyu Mishra (USA), Leon Luke Mendonca (IND), Li Di (CHN), and Tomas Sosa (ARG), all 4 players, scored 7.5/9 to secure 1st to 4th positions respectively according to tiebreak scores. The tournament was organised by Chess Menorca at Ciutadella, Menorca, from 7th to 12th April. There was a total of €26,000 in cash prizes, with top 3 prizes of €6000, €4000, and €2500 along with trophies. In addition, there is €10,000 in Chessable chess training and courses. 3 Indians finish in top 10

As usual, Menorca Open was a very strong event with the rating average of close to 2200. 38 GMs, 65 IMs, and more than 200 players took part in this wonderful event. 53 Indian players played in this event, and 3 finished in the top 10. Leon Luke Mendonca remained unbeaten and secured 2nd place, while Iniyan Pa and Sankalp Gupta scored 7/9 points to secure 8th and 10th positions respectively.
In another big news, Indian Prodigy Aarit Kapil also scored his first IM norm in the event.
