In his own words, he was “addicted” to watching YouTube videos. But everything changed when his mother introduced him to chess. A simple attempt to divert his attention quickly transformed into an obsession. His journey started from there and led him all the way to becoming a two-time National Champion. Vedant Panesar wins 1st Aquinas International School Rapid Rating Open 2025

FM Vedant Panesar and Atharva Madkar scored a 8/9 each at 1st Aquinas International School Rapid Rating Open 2025. Vedant won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Atharva was placed second. Vedant also remained undefeated. Six players scored 7.5/9 each. Out of them, FM Suyog Wagh was placed third. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹251000. The top three prizes were ₹21000, ₹15000 and ₹12000 each respectively. The one-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Universal Chess Foundation and Ashtavinayak Group at Aquinas International School in Mumbai, Maharashtra on 16th February 2025. This is Vedant's second rating tournament triumph of the year. The fifth round of FIDE Monaco GP 2025 witnessed five draws. It was the first time at this event all five games had no decisive result. Thus, the standings virtually remained unchanged. GM Kateryna Lagno is still the sole leader 3.5/5. She drew with IM Batkhuyag Munguntuul (MGL). GM Harika Dronavalli and GM Koneru Humpy shared their respective points against GM Aleksandra Goryachkina and GM Zhongyi Tan (CHN) respectively. Today is the sole rest day. GM Kateryna Lagno scored the sole victory in Round 4 of FIDE Monaco GP 2025. She is the now the sole leader 3/4. The three-time World Blitz champion had a messy game against GM Elisabeth Paehtz (GER). After an initial mistake, the Germany no.1 woman got an opportunity to get back in the game. The complex nature of the position made her falter in the end again, allowing her opponent to win the game. GM Koneru Humpy and GM Harika Dronavalli had relatively quiet draws against GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI) and IM Bibisara Assaubayeva (KAZ) respectively. Vantika Agrawal takes on 17 challengers in a thrilling simul

On the 15th of February, IM Vantika Agrawal took on 17 challengers in an exciting simultaneous exhibition at the ChessBase India Chess Club in Phoenix Marketcity Mall, Kurla. The simul featured players from different age groups and ratings, all eager to test their skills against a titled player. All the challengers enjoyed this rare opportunity to face the Olympiad Gold medalist. In the end, Vantika delivered an impressive performance with 15 wins and just 2 losses. Indian Men and Women's team receive National Team of the Year at Sportstar Aces Awards 2025

On 15th February 2025, Sportstar premiered the Sportstar Aces Awards 2025 on their youtube channel. IM Divya Deshmukh received Sportswoman of the year (Non-Olympic). She won the World Junior Girls Championship 2024, double Gold medal (individual and team) at 45th Chess Olympiad Women. Indian Men and Women's team received National Team of the Year for winning historic Gold medals at 45th Chess Olympiad held in Budapest, Hungary. GM Vidit Gujrathi and GM Srinath Narayanan were present to receive the men's award, Divya, IM Vantika Agrawal and GM Abhijit Kunte were present to receive the women's category award. GM Koneru Humpy drew with IM Batkhuyag Munguntuul (MGL) in Round 3 of FIDE Monaco GP 2025. They maintained their lead with IM Sarasadat Khademalsharieh (ESP) and GM Kateryna Lagno. GM Harika Dronavalli ended her losing streak by splitting the point with Lagno. Sara drew with GM Elisabeth Paehtz (GER). GM Aleksandra Goryachkina and GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI) are the only two victors of the round. They defeated IM Bibisara Assaubayeva (KAZ) and GM Zhongyi Tan (CHN) respectively. Tania Sachdev receives BBC Changemaker of the Year 2024 award

IM Tania Sachdev received BBC Changemaker of the Year award at BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year 2024 award ceremony. She is synonymous as a commentator at various top level chess tournaments, both online and over-the-board. Not only that, Tania has also won the Gold at the 45th Chess Olympiad 2024 in Budapest, Hungary. She scored an unbeaten 3.5/5 at that event, contributing valuable points towards the Gold. Before Tania, GM Koneru Humpy, the reigning two-time World Rapid Women's champion, won BBC Indian Sportswoman of the year award in 2021. However, she alleviated the pressure and the game ended in a draw. The Women's World Championship Challenger, GM Zhongyi Tan (CHN) missed a winning opportunity against IM Batkhuyag Munguntuul (MGL). GM Harika Dronavalli made a one-move blunder against IM Sarasadat Khademalsharieh (ESP). The game was otherwise heading towards a draw. IM Kushagra Mohan scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 2nd G H Raisoni Memorial Amravati Rapid Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. 13-year-old Nihaan Pohane scored 8/9 to secure second place. Eight players scored 7.5/9 each. Out of them, CM Vaibhav Jayant Raut was placed third according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹50000 + trophy, ₹30000 and ₹20000 each respectively. The one-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by G H  Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation and Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation at G H Raisoni University in Amravati, Maharashtra on 9th February 2025. This is Kushagra's first rating tournament triumph of the year.
