Humpy to face Anna Muzychuk in the Pool A Quarterfinals of FIDE Women's Candidates 2022-23

One half of the FIDE Women's Candidates participants will battle in Monaco. The tournament to determine the Challenger for Ju Wenjun and play for the Women's World Championship will be held in two phases. Pool A comprises Anna Muzychuk, Koneru Humpy, Lei Tingjie and Mariya Muzychuk. Anna will face Humpy and Tingjie will battle against Mariya in two Quarterfinal matches in a best of four games. The winner of each Quarterfinal matches will face each other in the Semifinals which will also have the same number of games. The winner of the Pool A Semifinal will face the winner of Pool B Semifinal at a later date. The Quarterfinals Game 1 starts at 3 p.m. local time, 6:30 p.m. IST. Photo: Michal Walusza

The Chennai Chess Olympiad Documentary

The Chess Olympiad 2022 was held in Chennai. It was the single biggest chess event held in India so far - a total of 188 nations took part in this mega chess festival. Abhyudaya Ram from the ChessBase India team created a documentary on the full Chennai Chess Olympiad and the events which lead up to it. Hage Lasa Nado wins 1st Garo Hills Rating Tournament 2022

Hage Lasa Nado scored 8/9 to win 1st Garo Hills Rating Tournament 2022. Despite losing his second round game, Hage registered seven consecutive victories, including an important win over the top seed Dupit Tabu in the final round to become the champion. Dupit scored sole 7.5/9 to finish second. Five players scored 7/9. Barbith M Sangma was placed third according to the tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹177000. The top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹20000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each. This was the first-ever Rating tournament in Meghalaya for the players of Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh players only. It is believed that the hardest battle one can have is with their own self. We often doubt ourselves, question our decisions, judgments, wonder if we could have done something differently. Once we are past the battle with ourselves, we are ready to conquer whatever we put our mind to. The things we know to be as correct, can sometimes prove to be not. Automatic decisions and moves can prove to have quite the opposite of our desired result. Robert Hovhannisyan wins Hoogeveen Open 2022, Bharath Subramaniyam third

GM Robert Hovhanniyan (ARM) defeated IM Nico Zwirs (NED) in the Finals to win Hoogeveen Open 2022. GM Bharath Subramaniyam H won the 3rd-4th place match against GM Evgeny Romanov (NOR) to finish third. Bharath drew their Classical encounter and then won both Blitz tie-breaks against Romanov. Earlier Bharath had defeated the eventual champion Hovhannisyan in the sixth round before the final four played their Semifinal matches. The total prize fund of the tournament was €9500. Chakravarthy Reddy clinches Sushruta Reddy's 1st Rating Open 2022

Top seed of the tournament, IM Chakravarthi Reddy scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win Sushruta Reddy's 1st Rating Open 2022. Dhanush Ragav N S and Arpan Das also scored 8/9 each. However, they were placed second and third according to tie-breaks. Third to fifth seed finished in the same order. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹600000. The top three prizes were ₹50000 and a trophy, ₹40000 and ₹30000 each respectively. A total of 247 players took part from various parts of the country, Australia, Mongolia, Scotland and USA. 1st Indian Chess Club tournament in Bahrain

The 1st Indian Club Rapid Chess Tournament 2022 was held at the Indian Club, Manama Kingdom of Bahrain on 14th of October 2022. There were a total of 140 participants from 11 countries. The event had a total prize fund of $1500. Mero Aghiad from Syria won the event scoring 6.5/7. Vismay Sachar was the best-performing Indian player - he scored 5.5/7 and finished in 11th position, also getting the 1st prize in the Under-14 age category. FM Nikhil Dixit wins the 5th TMCA Rapid

FM Nikhil Dixit won the Open section of the 5th TMCA One Day Rapid Chess Tournament, held in Chinchwade Lawns, Pune. Both Nikhil Dixit and Aniruddha Potawad scored 6.5/7, but Nikhil clinched the 1st place due to better tiebreaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was Rs.49000, and there were a total of 49 trophies awarded. There were a total of 4 categories - Open, Under 8, Under 10 and Under 14. The most number of participants trophy was won by host of the event - Tactical Moves Chess Academy (TMCA). India wins 46 medals at Asian Youth Chess Championships 2022

India has won a mammoth 46 medals including 27 individual (13 Gold, 6 Silver and 8 Bronze) medals, 19 team (8 Gold, 4 Silver and 7 Bronze) medals at Asian Youth Chess Championships 2022. 27 out of 108 individual medals were won by Indian players. Madhvendra Pratap Sharma is the only Indian who has won a Gold medal in all three formats - Classical, Rapid and Blitz in Under-10 Open category. He also remained undefeated in all 23 games. Charvi A, Ethan Vaz, Saparya Ghosh and WFM Bhagyashree Patil won two Gold medal each in their respective categories. Jan-Krzysztof Duda defies Mamedyarov's inspired comeback, clinches Aimchess Rapid 2022

Poland no.1 Jan-Krzysztof Duda defeated Shakhriyar Mamedyarov in the finals to win Aimchess Rapid 2022. It was certainly not an easy second set. Duda topped the Prelims then eliminated Vidit and Carlsen in the Quarterfinal and Semifinal matches without the need of tie-breaks. Mamedyarov had no plans of going down in two straight sets. He brought 'Shakh attack' and smashed Duda in the first two games. Duda made a prophylactic draw in the third to save energy and play Blitz tie-breaks. Queens in the castle: the 8th Global Chess Festival

The 8th Edition of the Global Chess Festival 2022 started from 8th October 2022. It brought together participants from 15 countries in Budapest. More than 3000 people attended the festival and tens of thousands followed the events online. News of the festival spread overseas, with all of New York watching on the giant screens in Times Square as the greatest female player of all time made her winning move in an iconic game against the current world champion. This year, the organizers aimed to raise awareness about the importance of the role of girls in various scientific fields.

8x8 Blunders wins Japan Team Chess Championship 2022 with a perfect score

Every year Japan’s Chess calendar features one event specially as a competition between various teams. This year’s event definitely had shades of inspiration by the 44th Chess Olympiad held in India in July-August 2022. The Japan Team Chess Championship is a good opportunity for the various chess clubs in the country to cobble up a few teams and show who is the best in business.
